ESWC 07: Group A-D complete

[s]event_200[/s]

Four of the eight groups are done and we didn't get to see any major upsets as all favorites advanced to the second groupstage.

The tournament started off at 10:00 CET for half of all players, namely the ones that were in group A-D. When they had played all their matches one could easily see that all big names got through to the next round.

NB! All groupstage matches in the tournament were played on two maps. A win with 2-0 gives three points while a 1-1 score gives one point, thus the sum of wins and losses not adding up to the matches played on some players due to a 1-1 score.

No surprises in group A where the benched SK player Deadman dominated and took all his opponents down with 2-0. Hanf and Dave followed taking the two last spots for advancement. HoT didn't get his visa sorted out so he didn't attend, resulting in getting five default losses.

Just like the prior group the three known names advanced. Creo and Soju played 1-1 but were forced to a tiebreaker to decide the group winner. The norwegian pro showed his great Night Elf mirror skills and won the deciding map.

SaSe and Lyc were the two prehand favourites to advance with Elqua close behind. Lyc was however close to not advancing by losing to Raziel with 2-0, the first upset of the day. In his last game versus Elqua he managed to tie, giving him a total of 8 points - only one more than his possibly new found nemesis Raziel. Players from India seem to have a tendency to surprise, like in WCG last year where the totally unknown Darkboi managed to beat the fiend master GoStop.

Grubby did just like Deadman and took five straight victories. It was made clear that HasuObs and Paladyn would follow in his steps. However, it was so close that a third and final map had to decide the final standing in the group between the two of them. Paladyn overcame which gave him the second place finish in the group, resulting in a slightly better seed for the second group stage.
