Enter The Storm #3 Team Spotlight: Fnatic

Coverage hub • Official website

Fnatic has been one of the longest standing teams in the history of competitive Heroes of the Storm. Starting out in early alpha as MyInsanity, the team signed to Fnatic in January of 2015. In August of 2015, a roster shakeup parted ways with the original roster players Aceofspades, Fredzw and Shinobu, and welcomed in Mene and previous Na'Vi members Breez and Wubby. Alongside original members Lowell and Kesil, the Fnatic team lives and practices together in a gaming house in Poland. Fnatic have always stayed strong in their playstyle, which allowed them to qualify for all major LANs including all three Dreamhacks of 2015, as well as the Europe Regional Championships in Prague.

While Na'Vi and Team Liquid might be the biggest rivalry in the EU scene, Fnatic and Na'Vi also have a healthy rivalry going on. Breez and Wubby departed from Natus Vincere, favouring the prospect of a team house.  Breez even quit school for a year to focus on his eSports career. What seemed to be a devastating departure of Breez and Wubby, actually resulted in a very successful acquisition of AlexTheProG, which made Na'Vi an even better team. This transfer saga created a new great matchup in Europe and ETS #3 will be the last arena before the decisive European Championship in Prague, on which we will get to see which team makes a louder statement. The bracket has also been generous as there is a very likely Fnatic vs Na'Vi matchup waiting for them at the upper bracket semifinals if they overcome their opponents.

When Fnatic was performing at Gamescom, and playing in the WCA EU Qualifiers, Khaldor met up with Fnatic for an interview with Breez and and an interview with Lowell. Curious statements include Lowell stating Team Liquid will not qualify for Blizzcon, and Breez explaining that the team has very much still been moving around the roles that players play in the team.

Fnatic has been in the scene for a long time, and has had mixed results against the other seven teams:

  • Fnatic has played Virtus.Pro 4 times, winning 0% of these matchups, losing 7 games.
  • Fnatic has played Team Liquid 7 times, winning 14% of these matchups, losing 13 games.
  • Fnatic has played Team ROCCAT 3 times, winning 67% of these matchups, losing 3 games.
  • Fnatic has played Bob Question Mark 3 times, winning 0% of these matchups, losing 6 games.
  • Fnatic has played Pirates in Pyjamas 1 time, winning 100% of these matchups, losing 1 games.
  • Fnatic has played Natus Vincere 11 times, winning 27% of these matchups, losing 15 games.
  • Fnatic has played ALTERNATE Fancy 2 times, winning 50% of these matchups, losing 2 games.

While Fnatic usually sticks to the top meta heroes, they have been known to play irregular heroes. In the video below, you can see how they make use of Murky and Tassadar to try and defeat Na'VI on Cursed Hollow:

Fnatic will have to take care of Virtus.Pro in the first round, to have the opportunity to face off against teams like Natus Vincere and ALTERNATE Fancy. But Fnatic has not had any success so far against VP, losing all of their previous encounters. We will find out if Fnatic have been improving to the point where they stand a chance on Friday.  Enter the Storm #3 playoffs will go live on the 11th of September at 16:00 CEST, casted by Khaldor at twitch.tv/Khaldor.
