EDward Gaming is set to bring China’s legacy at VCT Champions 2023.
EDward Gaming was crowned as the winner of VCT: China Qualifier after a 3-1 finish in the grand finals against Bilibili Gaming. The heavy fan-favorites finished the tournament with an almost flawless run.
Although the VCT Champions slots were already secured, the two teams still brought their A-games in the grand finals. FunPlus Phoenix also got the golden ticket to VCT Champions 2023 after they won the lower bracket semifinals.
This will be the second attempt of EDward Gaming in bagging the VCT Champions title. Their first attempt was underwhelming as they failed to qualify for the playoffs. The team had a similar run in VCT LOCK//IN São Paulo when they were eliminated during the first do-or-die series.
EDward Gaming finally drew the attention of the VALORANT community during the VCT Masters Tokyo. The Chinese team was lauded by fans for their impressive plays and clever tactics.
The team ended in the top six and their run featured impressive upsets against powerhouse teams like NAVI. EDward Gaming also ended the tournament journey of LOUD, the VCT Champions defending title holders.
Even without an S-tier title under their belt, EDward Gaming is a threat to teams in the VCT Champions 2023. EMEA took the first VCT Champions while NA took the second Champions title. Fans are hopeful that EDward Gaming will take the third one and let China chalk up in that scoreboard.
With the official launch of VALORANT in China, the professional scene expects more Chinese players of high calibre that will represent the region. A lot of the beloved professional players in different esports titles were pub gamers that were scouted by esports organizations.
The game’s official launch in the mainland will surely create an opportunity for players to showcase their skills and play on the big stage.
