Fancy United Esports is the first team to say goodbye to its VCT Ascension Pacific 2023 journey after a clean sweep from SCARZ.
SCARZ and Fancy United Esports started the quarterfinals series of VCT Ascension Pacific 2023 with their tournament lives on the line. The match opener was on the Split map and SCARZ surprised fans with a draft that had no Sentinel agent. Both teams also decided to use the double controller meta but SCARZ executed the strategy better.
The first game started a little shaky for Fancy as SCARZ took a calculated hit at B site during Fancy’s buy round. It secured another round win for SCARZ tallying the score to 4-0. Fancy immediately called a timeout to regain their team’s morale.
Fancy finally managed to get on the scoreboard but SCARZ was much stronger than they thought. The first half of the game ended with a 9-3 score in favor of the Japanese squad. Fancy seemed to find their footing in the attacking side as they took the first four round wins against SCARZ.
SCARZ took back its momentum and wrapped the first game under their name. Savva "Kr1stal" Fedorov undoubtedly showed his A-game with a 28-11-3 KDA on Raze.
The second game showcased intense gameplay from SCARZ and Fancy. Both teams proved to be on par with each other as they dragged the game to overtime.
The first round of overtime looked promising for Fancy as they were close to pinching the enemies. However, Fancy missed the timing window and SCARZ was able to get ahead of the possible flankers.
During the match point, Fancy immediately lost Phan "Gin" Văn Gin’s Raze as he tried to enter the B site and Scarz were playing safely with that advantage. Đinh "YESicaN" Đình Đạt’s Omen stepped up and turned the table around for Fancy denying Scarz a round win.
Fancy used the momentum to secure the next round and forced a match point. SCARZ were ready for the onslaught and tied up the round. Fancy was unable to contest another round with Brimstone’s ultimate and Viper lineups. After 32 heated rounds, Scarz finally closed the series in a 2-0 sweep.
SCARZ and NAOS Esports will duke it out in the semifinals to secure a slot in the championship event. The winner will await in the grand finals as Bleed eSports and BOOM Esports fight for the last spot.
VCT Ascension Pacific 2023 is happening in Bangkok, Thailand. The much-awaited grand finals will be on July 9 and the winner will take home $20,000 and a spot in the 2024 and 2025 Pacific Leagues.
