Evil Geniuses is the first team to qualify for the playoffs at the VCT Tokyo Masters

VCT Americas is making its mark with Evil Geniuses going 2-0 against DRX to secure its spot for the playoffs.

Evil Geniuses has become the first team to qualify for the playoffs of the VALORANT Champions Tour 2023: Masters Tokyo after having defeated DRX in Group B's winner's match-up. EG ends its group stage run with clean 2-0 sweeps across its two games, having not dropped a map so far.

As of right now, EG will join fellow Americas League winners LOUD alongside Fnatic, Paper Rex, and Team Liquid. Tomorrow will be Group A's deciding series between T1 and NRG to see who will be the second team to qualify for the playoffs.

The boys in blue have been in solid form since the start of the VCT Masters Tokyo after they defeated FUT Esports 2-0 on day one. However, it was their dismantling of the VCT Pacific second seed earlier today that made plenty of people stand up and take notice. DRX came into the tournament as one of the underdogs in the group stage and is now staring elimination in the face.

EG made lightwork in game one, taking the first five rounds on Fracture without much trouble. DRX looked uncoordinated at times, which was perfect for EG's aggressive plays that saw them come out with 13 map wins to DRX's five to secure the first map. But in game two, DRX managed to turn it around and give EG a good run for its money.

While game one saw EG take five of the six rounds in the second half, game two on Ascent had DRX pick up three key diffuses to bring themselves back to within one. Sadly, DRX's momentum would be stopped prematurely with EG picking up three straight wins in a row to seal their move to the next round.

Day three of the VALORANT Champions Tour 2023: Masters Tokyo will start with T1 versus NRG to decide the second team to head to the playoffs. That best-of-three will take place at 11.00 am GMT+8, followed by Group B's elimination match-up between FUT Esports and Attacking Soul Esports at 14.00 pm GMT+8. The last series of the day will be the other elimination series but for Group A's EDward Gaming and NAVI.
