LW Blue 3-1 KongDoo Panthera to complete APEX top four for Playoffs

The IEM Gyeonggi champions will face the heavily improved RunAway for a spot in the finals.

It was a revenge day today for captain Gyeong-Ho “Luna” Jang and his LW Blue as they faced an opponent which beat them not one week ago: KongDoo Panthera.

The two teams met in the round of eight group stage in March 17, with the series off to a promising start for LW Blue as they won both Lijang Tower and Numbani to open the series. Come Hanamura, however, the team built around star DPS Yeon-Oh “Fl0w3r” Hwang started to crumble and KongDoo Panthera achieved a reverse sweep, leaving doubts for LW’s future in the league, despite being considered the heavy favorites by APEX caster Christopher “MonteCristo” Mykles.

The rematch began in a familiar manner with LW Blue winning rounds one and two and KongDoo Panthera getting on the scoreboard in the assault round by winning Temple of Anubis. Before Panthera could repeat the same scenario, however, they were treated to a world class performance by one Jong-Ryeol “Saebyeolbe” Park.

On Route 66, Saebyeolbe gave a textbook performance on Tracer and Roadhog, matching and even outperforming at times KongDoo’s Kyo-Min “EVERMORE” Koo on his signature tank. Both times they were tied in points after they exchanged a round of attacks each, but LW entered round two with a lot more time to spare. With merely one minute of playtime allowed due to finishing the map in Overtime, Panthera could only push the payload just below the first bridge, a distance LW easily covered.

LW Blue are to play RunAway next in the first semi-final of the league. After finishing in the bottom four of season one, RunAway have seemingly improved by a large margin and not only survived the round of sixteen, but also topped their round of eight group which featured reigning champions EnVyUs and the arguable best team in Korea Lunatic-Hai.

The winner of that March 24 semi-final will play the winner of Meta Athena and Lunatic-Hai for the championship.
