Minstrel and Liquid part ways

The support player of the horseheads leaves a vacancy that Liquid will look to fill through tryouts.

After starting his Overwatch career with Team Hubris in 2015, Lucio main John “Minstrel” Fisher enjoyed short tenures with EnVyUs and Nubris before officially signing with Team Liquid in July of last year. Although his time on nV and Hubris brought Minstrel all his first places, it was with Liquid that he accumulated the majority of his winnings, competing as Liquid’s support in major LANs such as BTS Overwatch Open, MLG Vegas and Winter Premiere.

Although a regular fixture in the North American scene, Liquid has struggled to secure high finishes. The team continuously failed to make the playoffs of majors, usually finishing just one position below coveted top four berths.

Who will fill in Minstrel’s shoes will be determined through try-outs, Liquid’s official website states, but one potential candidate ought to be Lui “Lui” Olivares, who has been subbing in for Ministrel in Liquid’s Carbon Series matches against Hammers Esports and Renegades. With two more high-stakes matches against compLexity and Immortals coming on March 1-2 and at 0-2 currently in the Carbon Series standings, the team has some tough calls to make.

“Minstrel was, in my opinion, the most funny and honest guy I've met in a while, despite generally being pretty quiet, and announcing his departure today is certainly a sad event for me,” writes Liquid’s Overwatch manager John Lewis. “I certainly always valued his ability to make everyone laugh, even after the toughest losses. I'm not sure what's next for Minstrel, but he seems to be the kind of guy that can play any game at a high level, so I'm sure he will find some more success in his future.”
