Missed some of the games in the Overwatch World Cup? We got you covered with a recap of the past 2 days!
The Group Stage of the Overwatch World Cup is coming along slowly and we’ve seen some incredible series already. Today is the final day of the Group Stage. The national teams are giving the best of themselves to secure the top 2 spot in their group to advance to Blizzcon.
In Group A the national teams of Sweden, Spain, Brazil and Canada battle it out. Sweden crushed their opponents without losing a single game. They lead in Group A. Spain had some issues with Canada, but after an interesting series they came out victorious. This means both Sweden and Spain have equal points and Brazil and Canada are out of the cup. Today’s series between Sweden and Spain will be the decider for the winner of Group A!
Group B consists of USA, Russia, Germany and Chile. Both USA and Russia destroyed their opponents with incredible plays. Those series were satisfying to watch due to the teamplay and consistency of both teams. Germany was a strong and solid team, but couldn’t tip their foes. Chile seemed less consistent than their contestants. The Cold War is over today with USA and Russia ready to battle for the winning spot in their group.
Let’s have a closer look at Group C, where favourites South Korea and Finland seem to secure the top 2. South Korea had next to no problems at all to completely knock out their adversaries. Finland however had a rough time versus Taiwan, but managed to come back and win both their series as well. Taiwan was close to defeating Finland, but didn’t succeed. The Australian Overwatch team still has a lot to learn for next year! We’re looking forward to see an astonishing clash between Finland and their eastern rivals South Korea today!
The last group, Group D contains China, France, Thailand and Singapore. China is secured at least a top 2 spot in their group, but they had to fight for it. After an extremely close series versus Thailand, China managed to get all 6 points. The only European team in this Asian-tinted group is France. They face a huge challenge to secure a top 2 spot. After winning easily from Singapore and losing to Thailand, they need to win their last series against the undefeated China. Thailand is rather in a better position as they need to face Singapore, that didn’t win any games so far. But nothing is impossible and today’s games in Group D will be thrilling to watch!
A reminder that today is the final day of the Overwatch World Cup Group Stage, with the broadcast starting 11 AM PDT/2 PM EDT/20:00 CEST, and the top 2 of every group will qualify for the single elimination bracket at Blizzcon in Anaheim, California. The Quarterfinals and Semifinals will be best-of-three and the Grand Finals will be a best-of-seven! A lot to look forward to. Soon we will know what countries will make their nation proud at Blizzcon in the Overwatch World Cup!
