Blizzard introduces new brawl mode - Junkenstein's Revenge

Finally, after rumours, we have gotten the spooky event. In honour of Halloween Blizzard is giving us an event, which includes new skins, sprays, victory poses, and, most importantly, a new brawl.

Since it is the spooky month of the year, Blizzard decided to celebrate by creating another special event in Overwatch. This event includes new skins, voice lines, and victory poses. But most exciting is the new Brawl mode. For those of you who are unfamiliar, Brawl is when Blizzard decides to throw all their careful balancing out the window and give you the craziest modes. For example, the previous brawl was random heroes. You would spawn in as a different hero every time you died and you couldn’t switch heroes.

So what is Blizzard doing for Halloween?

Their brawl pits 4 heroes against the armies of Junkenstein (spooky Junkrat). Those 4 heroes are:

  • Ana
  • Hanzo
  • McCree
  • Soldier: 76

Only 1 hero per team and no hero switching. You then have to prevent Junkenstein from breaking the castles doors down. Junkenstein will assault you and your valiant defenders with zomnics (zombie omnics, get it?) and zombradiers. Essentially it is a zombie mode with some special appearances that is more fun if you discover them for yourself.

You are placed at the gates of Eichenwalde during the dark night and have very little maneuvering room. The best part of the mode is the commentary between the characters and the caster; he explains the plot and reveals a bit more about the characters and why Dr. Junkenstein is doing what he is doing.

This brawl mode will run till November 1st, if only it would run longer. If you are having trouble finishing the mode here are a couple tips to help you beat the mode, even on the hardest difficulties:

  • Don’t forget Ana can heal. Over and over again, Ana’s will focus on killing zomnics and forget to heal the 3 DPS heroes. Keeping them alive should be your priority as an Ana
  • Don’t be shy about using your ult’s, as long as one of your teammates has an ult you can use yours. They come back fast enough anyways that you will be able to use yours again.
  • Pick a side and try to stick to it. This is easier if you are in a group, but even if you are solo queuing you can still choose a side, pick left, center or right and cover that side. You can help out the others but you shouldn’t switch your position too often. This will help prevent flanking.

Do keep in mind that xp from the brawl seems to be a little lower than the xp gained from a regular game.
