EU Weekly #15 Event Hub | EU Weekly #15 VODs

With the top 7 European teams participating in this week’s EU tournament, highlights were plentiful, so let us break down some games and teams that caught our eye this week.

The Boys are Back

After a few weeks of failing to capture the EU Weekly title, REUNITED looked to be permanently slumping. A lot of skeptics doubted if they would ever be able to find their old dominant form again, especially with the release of core member - TwoEasy. This week’s resounding win not only put REUNITED back in the spotlight as a top EU powerhouse, but marked a watershed moment for the competitive scene. Their 17-year-old pickup, Kyb, showcased exactly why the organization scouted him from the Competitive Play ladder.

Kyb’s performance demonstrated a mastery of the DPS position and was a dominant force in the team’s lower bracket run, winning over Misfits, SG-1, and Creation enroute to a meeting with Rogue in the Grand Final. If you can only watch a single VOD this week, make sure it is the Grand Final between Rogue and REUNITED. REUNITED’s full hold on Hollywood in Game 2 was a rare sight in an attack-dominated meta. Keep an eye out for Kyb’s Hanzo on REUNITED attacking side!

Watch the Throne

You might be asking, “If REUNITED is so good, who could have possibly sent them to the lower bracket?” SG-1 has been nothing but impressive in their recent tournament runs. After strong showings at the Atlantic Showdown EU Qualifiers #1 and King of the Watch #14, SG-1 has quietly crept up the rankings and is a serious contender in any tournament they enter. Check out the Round of 8 match between REUNITED and SG-1 if you want to see exactly how good the squad is. The games are both extremely close, but SG-1 shows the grit and perseverance of a top level team with great wins on both Hollywood and King’s Row.

The Silent Overlords

But if you want to talk about top level, Creation is the standard. Creation eSports is one of the more overlooked teams by Twitch chat standards, but no-one dares sleep on the best team in Europe right now. Creation has put forth quite the impressive resume in the last months with an extremely solid 3-0 victory over Rogue at the ASUS ROG 10th Anniversary LAN finals and will be facing the same Rogue team at the Acer Pro Challenge finals. With great record against all of the top teams, Creation still remain the Kings of Europe, and their consistency is a testament to how solid the squad is overall. Their Winners Round 5 match against SG-1 is a great game to watch, but make sure to always keep an eye out for them in the future.

NA Weekly #15 Event Hub | NA Weekly #15 VODs

Unlike the EU Weekly, the NA Weekly was missing a lot of the top North American talent. This didn’t hinder the action though, so let’s take a look at a few stories that came out of this Weekly.

Strong showing by nubris and SG-1

As predicted in the viewer’s guide, nubris was the top team during the Weekly with SG-1 coming in second. nubris was able to secure wins in all seven of their matches, while SG-1’s only loses came against the eventual champion, nubris. Both teams looked strong, but their wins were expected. As the tenth ranked team in the world, nubris was the highest ranking team taking part in this Weekly. SG-1 was a close second as the eleventh ranked team, and both secured wins against lower ranked opponents. Both teams had strong showings, but it’s hard to say if either team – especially nubris – actually dominated, or if they just didn’t face many teams on their level.

Surprises!

While the performance of nubris and SG-1 was not unexpected, there were a few teams that did seem to come out of nowhere. 2sTroNk was predicted to take fourth, and they came in third. Not a big jump in placing, but they were able to take down 1SHOT, WeUnited (2Easy’s new team), and sodipop as well as give SG-1 a tough match in the losers bracket final. Melty eSports was the surprise as well, but not in a good way. They suffered losses to 1SHOT and then were knocked out of the Weekly by Clutch. Granted Melty eSports were a European team playing on NA servers, but in reality they just failed to show up.
