The Banhammer Strikes in Overwatch China

Blizzard has made a strong statement barely over a week after the release of Overwatch by banning over 1,500 players accused of hacking. 

Blizzard dropped the ban hammer today when over 1,500 Chinese Overwatch players were permanently banned for using hacks or exploitative third party software. According to a statement translated by reddit user czhihong Over the past few days, we have been taking action worldwide against Overwatch accounts who have been found using cheats/hacks/add-ons. We have been working hard to provide a fair gameplay environment for Overwatch players, and will continue to clamp down on players who violate the terms of service with appropriate actions; all illegal doings will be heavily punished.

This landmark move by Blizzard marks the first time they have effectively addressed cheating in their newest game. The vast number of people banned and the wording of the statement will set the tone for how fair play will be policed in Overwatch. The move comes barely a week after the game launched leaving us to speculate how many ban waves will go out and which regions will follow Blizzard China’s lead.
