We had yet another amazing weekend of GosuGamers Weeklies, and we are thrilled that both the fans and players are supporting the competitive scene time and time again. With the help of our partners we were able to give a total of $1000+ in prizes this weekend. If you missed the action, here is a quick recap for you:
GosuGamers Overwatch Weekly EU #10
VODs - Bracket
As if it were any surprise at this point, IDDQD continued their reign as the best team in Overwatch this week. They continued their streak of first places, but it wasn’t complete dominance: In the grand finals, REUNITED.gg took them to a decisive game 5, a feat that no other team has achieved in a while. Once again IDDQD stuck to the EU side of the weekend, giving some teams a chance to shine in the NA bracket on Sunday.
This week’s bracket was very interesting, although the numbers alone don’t show that. Nearly every game it felt like the two teams playing could beat the other, with standout performances from unknown_, and IMPULSE 11, two up-and-coming teams. Both performed well for being new to the scene, with IMPULSE 11 knocking Luminosity Gaming out of the tournament, and unknown_ going toe to toe with REUNITED.gg. Ultimately, the teams fell to giants IDDQD and REUNITED.gg, but not before having made a real impression on the competition with their impressive runs. REUNITED.gg was just as impressive in the finals, when they took the contest to game 5 on Volskaya against powerhouse IDDQD.
GosuGamers Overwatch Weekly NA #10
VODs - Bracket
Once again IDDQD sat out of the NA side of things, opening the floor for other teams to take an easier shot at the grand prize. Cloud 9, Luminosity Gaming and REUNITED.gg were the big names on the NA side of things, but after Code7’s dominant performance last week and IMPULSE 11’s great run yesterday, it was unclear who would make it to the finals.
The games were close, and almost every match it felt teams were willing to switch it up with many oft-overlooked heroes getting the spotlight. Luminosity Gaming was able to get their revenge on IMPULSE 11 after being knocked out by them yesterday, taking their match against the team 2-0. Cloud 9 went head to head with unknown_ in a set of incredibly close matches before they were able to beat them out and move on to face Luminosity Gaming, where another narrow victory ensured they were able to move in to the finals. On the other side of things, REUNITED.gg and Code7 both had standout performances in their first two matches, before progressing to face each other in yet another incredibly close series.
Finally, REUNITED.gg and Cloud 9 faced off in a real nailbiter. Both teams on great form, with the advantage going back and forth, until finally REUNITED.gg was able to beat out Cloud 9 and take their first competitive win.
