GameOn Overwatch Arena enters Playoff phase tomorrow

After 3 weeks of intense matches, the GameOn Overwatch Arena is entering its Playoff phase where the top 4 teams will compete for the $1,200+ prize pool!

The GameOn Overwatch Arena is entering its playoff phase, after a group phase between 14th and 30th March where teams faced each other once in a Round-Robin system. The original roster consisted of six invited teams, along with IDDQD and Quake Fortress who fought their way into the competition.  A lot of 2-0 matches later (with the exception of SG-1 vs Melty going 2-1), it is time for the final battles to begin.

After a total of 28 matches, the following four teams came out on top:

IDDQD came out undefeated with #FlatEarth following closely with only one loss. Reunited.gg only succumbed to the two previously mentioned teams and Melty will take on the underdog position with only 3 wins so far.

Taking place on 4th and 5th April, the playoffs will include a loser bracket, and feature best-of-three matches in all games except for the grand finals. The latter will divide the prize pool of $1,200+ over the top 2 in a best-of-five match. How much is added to the base prize pool will depend on Matcherino donations, which as of writing has already reached $143! Fans can also contribute for free, using the code GAMEON to add a dollar to the prize pool.

Don’t want to miss out on the action? Head on over to Azubu.tv/GameOn where ZP and Hexagrams will cover all match starting at 19:00 CEST and brackets can be found here.

Who will take the GameOn Arena crown? Here are our predictions:

#1 IDDQD

Going undefeated throughout the entire tournament and on a total winstreak of 53 matches, IDDQD is the dead-set favourite to win GameOn Overwatch Arena. They recently did lose some games, going 4-1 versus Team Unknown on King of the Watch and 3-2 versus Reunited.gg in the 10th GosuGamers EU tournament, but nonetheless are still the best European (and Global) team and will be near impossible to beat if they bring their A-game.

#2 REUNITED.GG

They may have lost against in #FlatEarth during the group phase, but that match took place on 15th March and Reunited has grown a lot since, acquiring the talented Kruise and massively improving their teamplay. They have proven that they have potential of beating IDDQD last Saturday, making a 2-2 comeback against IDDQD before losing 3-2, but still lack coordination to completely take out the number one team.

#3 #FlatEarth

Having won the first GameOn Overwatch Cup, #FlatEarth is defending their honour. And they are certainly not a bad team, having won against Reunited.gg in the past and being one of the few teams to take a map off IDDQD. But as other teams keep improving, #FlatEarth is peddling in place, failing to repeat previous feats, and will need to prove their worth against the other top European teams in the playoffs.

#4 Melty eSports Club

Melty eSports has recently made a name for itself by winning the first Overwatch LAN event at Gamer’s Assembly. But aside from that, their track record is bumpy and they seem to struggle getting their act together. Having recently lost to #FlatEarth in the ESL Community Cup #7, they have big challenge up ahead getting into the top three.
