We had another amazing weekend of GosuGamers Weeklies just now, and we are excited that both the fans and players are supporting the competitive scene time and time again. With the help of our partners we were able to give a total of $1100 in prizes this weekend. If you missed the action, here is a small recap for you:
GosuGamers Overwatch Weekly EU #9
VODs - Bracket
We know we say this a lot, but that's only the case because it's true: IDDQD is currently the best Overwatch team. They show it week after week, usually while playing exciting compositions and strategies. Since IDDQD is a European team, they seem to have decided to stick to only the EU weeklies for the time being, allowing some of the NA teams spotlight on Sunday.
More interesting than IDDQD's side of the bracket (featuring well-performing teams like Quake Fortress and Gringos), was the side with top teams Luminosity Gaming and REUNITED.gg as well as up-and-coming teams like unknown_ and IMPULSE 11. Especially those three teams put up a lot of exciting games, in which the results could possibly have gone either way. REUNITED.gg's experience as a team made the difference however, and with the help of new addition Kruise they were able to defeat Luminosity 2-0 in their Semi-Finals. Route 66 was one of the maps played in this Semi-Finals, and already showed signs of being a very good addition to the map pool.
GosuGamers Overwatch Weekly NA #9
VODs - Bracket
This Sunday it was Easter Holiday, which showed in the amount of teams signing up. Still though, we got a very good combination of top teams and up-and-comers. EU team IMPULSE 11 was back this time around, joined by the French teams Metatrone and Cooldown (both playing from the Gamers Assembly LAN). Korean team LuxuryWatch was also back for a second time, and with some more success. Most of the focus was on Cloud9 and Luminosity Gaming however, both top teams that were expected to make it to the Grand Finals.
But Code7 put a stop to that dream in the Semi-Finals. On Watchpoint: Gibraltar, Code7's ability to stall the game after the first checkpoint due to their strategically placed Soldier: 76's guaranteed them that map win. Dorado started out a lot closer, but Code7 yet again showed their strength on defence. It seems the best defense is in fact defense.
For the finals, while Cloud9 managed to win 3-0 it wasn't as easy for them as that score would imply. Both teams showed to have strong defense phases, but Cloud9 did end up edging out the win time and time again. Especially on the final map that was played, Nepal, Cloud9's grasp of the Control gamemode proved to be vastly superior.
