Pulse eSports: 'Everything is from pubs and dreams.'

Pulse eSports is playing on Friday in the DreamHack Winter group phase. We caught up with them at their bootcamp right before the tournament and all players participated in the interview.

You have been very impressive as of late and have won games against the likes of Na'Vi. How much effort, dedication and commitment do you put into gaming?

Reesion: We practice everyday with few exceptions like after big events such as StarLadder. So approximately 3 to 4 games a day.

You have been around for quite some time and had a good run with Infused as well. What was your fondest moment of that time?

Fishbone: Winning GosuLeague 2-0 mouz in the final match.

In the end, you had somewhat of a drought and eventually parted ways with Infused. However you picked up your game again and impressed as Skånes Elite. What changed?

Fishbone: Pinoy joined the team, Mini started drafting and Wisp entered the meta game and we started picking him up early.

Pulse eSports then acquired your services. Did you have more options and if so, what was your screening process, what was most important for you in a sponsor?

Fishbone: We wanted a good sponsor so we could go to StarLadder since we couldn't afford it ourselves so we set bonzajajaj on it and hoped for the best and it worked out perfectly.

Mini, you took over drafting and are shouldering the responsibility alongside Waga. Do think this is better than having one person calling all the shots?

Waga shouting from a distance: Mini has full responsibility!

Mini: It's mostly fun, but you have to take responsibility.

Fishbone: In the end we feel that its all our responsibility since we are 5 players though the captain might take a bit more.

Back when you were still Infused, you used to be somewhat famous for running a dual midlane, most notably Anti Mage and Crystal Maiden. Why haven't you run this lane as of late?

Waga: It's hard to draft Anti-Mage vs Sven CK and Luna. They just hit Anti-Mage down so easily.

Reesion: Jakiro and other supports got a lift in recent patches pushing CM away as the main supporter.

Now you are more known for combining Juggernaut with Wisp or running "odd" offlanes, such as Brewmaster or Undying. Do you strategize these ideas together or does someone pick up a strategy out of pubs and includes them?

Reesion: It's Mini's ideas and that's why he is drafting.

Mini: Everything is from pubs and dreams. Pinoy could say he played Ursa in pub and that its OP then we just pick it and it works.

Let's talk about DreamHack. Who would you place in the top 3 spots (other than yourself)?

Reesion: Na'Vi, Empire and dignitas

Mini: Na'Vi, Empire and NoTidehunter

Wagamama: Na'Vi, Empire and dignitas

Fishbone: Na'Vi Empire and dignitas

Is there any team in particular you'd say could surprise everyone (both negatively or positively)?

Mini: 3DMAX they have been playing well recently, they seem to be upcoming.

What do you think is a realistic goal for your team?

Mini: Top 4. Normally, I would say top 5, but the money is at 4.

This time around, DreamHack has taken production level a step further and brought in a studio. What do you think about the whole organization of this tournament?

Fishbone: I don't think the group play in last year was that great with best-of-one, I would like to see best-of-two.

Here the interview is interrupted due to Pinoy being late for a game and I have to jump.

Aside from DreamHack, you are also in GosuLeague's fifth season. What do you think about this tournament, being a (mostly) monthly event and having won it once before?

Wagamama: GosuLeague is great, I mean we even won first season under the tag Infused. It’s important to have online tournaments during the year in between the offline events. It’s important for sponsors, because you can get attention at any time.
