Day one of ASUS ROG Assembly Winter 2012 saw the completion of the group stage matches. The last four groups played in the evening of February 24th in some way continued the theme from earlier that day of the Korean presence being shaken by the foreign representatives.
Group A saw Polish terran DieStar take the top spot despite being in the company of community and tournament favorites such as WhiteRa or JYP. The terran left the newest addition of EG - Korean protoss JYP - trailing second after beating him directly 2-1 and ultimately winning via a set advantage.
Taeja was the third Korean to become a group leader, topping F with a 6-1 in the company of Elfi, Jinro and Adelscott. Much like Puma and HerO, the SlayerS terran did not see much of a challenge and his advancement to the playoff was easily secured.
Same could not be said for the other three competitors, who all finished 1-2 in matches, two of them with even an equal set score. To Jinro's and Adel's misfortune. Finnish protoss Elfi ended up having just one more won set than them and took the train to the playoffs. Third would finish Jinro due to his direct win over Adel.
Counting sets was the theme in Group G as well. Although counter among one of the strongest zergs in Korea, FXOLucky could not follow the same steps as Hero, Puma or Taeja. Lucky began his Assembly run with a 1-2 loss to Strelok but quickly redeemed himself with two 2-0 victories that shot him to the top.
Strelok himself was left at third place as his previous loss to Bischu proved to be crucial as both ended with a 4-3 map score and it came down to their direct face-off.
Group H saw a bit of an upset as British terran Bling gave the dust to the two Koreans in the group, including TSL's ace and Super Tournament champion Polt and Type's Phoenix. Bling was the first foreigner at Assembly to defeat the Korean presence so decisively and earned a well deserved playoff spot.
Second in the group came Polt, who although convincingly defeated Phoenix in group's opening match, went set for set against TLO before finally prevailing over him and finishing 4-3.
