Quantic Gaming's Zerg Steven "Destiny" Bonnell speaks out after his return from a three-week stay at the StarTale house.
On December 2nd, Quantic Gaming announced that Destiny would be travelling to Korea for a short time to live and train at the ST house. Post his return, the popular streamer sat down for an interview with his team to share his experiences and results from his stay in the East.
Despite the language barrier, Destiny finds this trip of his beneficial and productive and he attributes this to the sheer amount of practice that he was able to get in such an environment. On the question of if he ha noticed an increase to his skill level, Quantic's Zerg is very positive.
- "At the moment I'm top 16 on NA with almost a 70% win-rate. Before I would consistently hover at around a 50% win/loss. Startale Tiger really helped me with my ZvP. I still don't think I'm ready to compete at the highest levels yet, but I'm actively working my way there."
That being said, Destiny expresses a visible desire to return to South Korea, saying that the goal of reaching his full potential has not been reached yet. Finally, at the closing steps of the interview, Bonnell shares an interesting insight on why practicing in Korea is so productive. As it appears, the quality of the practice partners itself plays a much smaller role.
- "For me, personally, the biggest benefits are no real life distractions, giving me the ability to play the game for 8+ hours/day, and access to the Korean ladder, which has many many diverse styles and great players on it. The benefit of having skilled, real life training partners to talk to is definitely there, but the language barrier hampers that a bit, and the fact that I don't feel like I was good enough to truly take advantage of them yet. Maybe my opinion on that would change in the future if I go down at a higher skill level."
