The first day of the Intel Extreme Global Challenge at Gamescom, Cologne is over, and the first four players have advanced to the playoffs. See the full results and details below.
As many people expected, the two-times GSL champion oGsMC dominated Group A with ease. MC dropped only a single map against Killer and finished with an overall 6-1 score that shot him directly towards the Ro8. That win was Killer's only success in the group as he finished last with 1-6 score, dropping out of Gamescom, joined with Beastyqt. The Serbian terran put up a really impressive run in the tournament but the second place was ultimately taken by his teammate Kas.

Group B was nail-bitingly close with the winners not clear up until the very end. But finally, the top two were decided if only by the tiniest of advantage.
With three players with 2-1 score in game, it all came down to counting the map W/L balance. The latter proved to be fatal for TSL_Killer (a.k.a. SangHo). His final map score was 5-4 and had he not dropped a set to DieStar in his final game, the group would have ended with a deadly tiebreaker. But as it was, Socke and Select took the top two spots (both with the equal 5-3) with Socke getting the first place due to previous direct victory against Select.
