New York has been announced as the third city to host a Global Challenge stop for ESL's flagship Intel Extreme Masters. Only a week after Guangzhou in China 16 players will go head-to-head for a World Championship slot and a piece of the $21,000 USD prize pool.
The stop at the Comic Con in New York will be the third Global Challenge stop of the sixth season of Intel Extreme Masters. ESL already visited Comic Con back in the fifth season with great success. And with a three-timed prize pool increase, this year's competition will surely raise the roof of Javits Center.
The StarCraft 2 tournament will feature 16 players. One spot is dedicated to the "American champion" - who GosuGamers assume is the
fifth season's American Championship winner Jian Carlo "Fenix" Morayra Alejo. The other 15 are made up of either invitations or qualifiers.
The European qualifiers are thus far the only announced qualifiers. The two will kick off on August 31 and September 4 respectively. The details on all American and Asian qualifiers are said to be released as soon as possible.
Collides with MLG Orlando
Dated to October 13-16, the Global Challenge in New York will battle for viewership with Major League Gaming's 2011 Pro Circuit stop in Orlando dated to October 14-16.
