The Protoss heroes of Sweden and Korea did not drop a single series and claimed the top spots in their respective groups. But as Group D had its clear winners, Group C was much closer and was decided by a close final set.
Sase delivered the hugest upset in Group C, going out with a perfect 5-0 score against the deadly Idra, the War3 legend Grubby and the European terran trio Kas/Merz/Naama. Much like compatriot Naniwa, Sase dropped only a single set throughout his run and impressed viewers and casters alike.
The rest of the group was undecided till the very end. Kas, who opened with an impressive 2-hour long series against Naama, dropped the next three sets and had to face Idra in his final game. EG's Zerg was in a better, but just as dangerous position, being tied with Grubby and Merz with a 2-2 score. As the games progressed, Idra's chances dwindled as Kas managed to tie the score and force a game 3. The latter was won by Idra and after Merz went down 0-2 to Naama, the tournament admins took a 5-minute break to calculate the score, which stated that EG's ace player would indeed advance to the Ro16.
Group D was much more straightforward as MC ploughed throw the group also undefeated. Second came SEn who took 2nd with a 4-1 score, perfectly winning all the sets after his loss against the Korean beast.
This puts us half-way through the group phase with Naniwa, Ret, BratOK, Socke, Sase, Idra, MC and SEn already in the Ro16.
