In what was one of the most anticipated games at MLG Columbus, Min Chul "MC" Jang defeated MLG Dallas champion Johan "Naniwa" Lucchesi with a dark templar build and a perfected 4-gate.
Two completely different matches but all the while the same victor was what the crowd witnessed in the lower championship bracket quarter final. Naniwa executed a typical 4-gate on Metalopolis, and was only moments away from winning the first game as MC's dark templar warped in in time.
"The Dance of Death"
Naniwa, sure of victory, with a handful of stalkers and zealots inside MC's base, even made his zealots dance. But little did he know that a dark templar was already on the way to his mineral line. And with yet another dark templar warping in as defense, MC could hold off well enough for Naniwa to admit defeat.
4-gate - the deciding strategy
In a quick second game, MC gave Lucchesi a piece of his own medicine, when he perfected the 4-gate strategy on Tal'Darim Altar. Naniwa, who went for a quick tech to blink stalkers, had slim to nothing to put up against MC's 8 stalkers running in. Quickly admitting defeat, a 'gg' was called and MC became the one to face IdrA in the lower championship bracket semi final.
IdrA vs. MC - rematch from the first game
IdrA, homefield hero, bit off MC in their first encounter, and have been looking incredibly fit. It wasn't until he was faced with Thorzain and MMA that he suffered defeat. Despite the loss at pool play, IdrA still came out on top of his group.
MC came in second place in the same group, and therefor had to go through two more matches to get to the lower bracket semi final. Having disposed ThorZaIN, Moon and Naniwa, MC is now up against a very tough opponent.
Not only is IdrA up 2-0 already, which puts MC in the need to win four games out of six to advance, but the stinging defeat at the start of the tournament might also be a splinter in the back of his mind.
