Reforging is a new service offered by NPCs that will allow you to customize your own items by altering the stats that are provided. The reforging system was meant to come out in Cataclysm but has now been released with Patch 4.0.1.

With today's release of the first major patch to get World Of Warcraft players ready for the Cataclysm, patch 4.0.1 has introduced a new service to the heroes of Azeroth: reforging.

Reforging will allow you to customize items by altering stats that items already provide. Stats are categorized by primary stats and secondary stats. Primary stats include Stamina, Intellect, Strength, and Agility. These stats cannot be changed through the reforging system. Secondary stats include Spirit, Haste Rating, Critical Strike Rating, Expertise Rating, etc. Secondary stats can be altered via the reforging service.

Reforging NPCs can be found at every major city near Enchanting trainers. Items must be Level 200 and above to be reforged and the cost of reforging items will depend on the vendor value of the item(s).

How To Use The Reforging System
After selecting an item to be reforged and finding the Reforging NPC, you can alter a secondary stat already present on the item and do a trade off of roughly 40% of the secondary stat to another secondary stat of your choice. However, you can only alter one secondary stat a time and you can not re-reforge an item to bolster the stats of an already altered secondary stat.

Reforging will allow players to make those final touches on their items to better suit their characters needs. It will also allow users to try out different reforging techniques by allowing users to reforge their items more than once. Just another tool to help the heroes of Azeroth prepare for the imminent arrival of Deathwing.
