This year is probably the year where StarCraft: Brood War will receive the least attention at the World Cyber Games.
We can mention a number of reasons why we should be bummed about this year's event. The fact that there are only 19 participants. The drastic prize money reduction. StarCraft 2 putting StarCraft: Brood War in a total eclipse. Hosted in the Counter-Strike and console friendly United States.
But we know better. World Cyber Games is what we make of it. And looking at the 36 group stage games, the possible playoff outcome and the amount of entertaining games that will come out of it, we push the bum facts aside and dive into the World Cyber Games.
We are in for a real treat where Russians Terrans will clash with Chinese Zergs, Korean superstars against seasoned and newfound players from around the world.
Will the Korean progamers Jaedong, Flash and KaL perform flawlessly in the group stage? Can the likes of Dmitry "A2" Demichev, Sin Yi "F91" Feng and Luo "Legend" Xian challenge them?
Group A has the reigning World Cyber Games champion Lee Jae "Jaedong" Dong. With two players advancing from the five-man group, his advancement is easily predicted, but the last spot is an open story. Yayba, A2 and F91 are all players who can edge through. Japanese player kurOa will have a hard time against the seasoned players.
Or how about the most often epic games between Korean and Chinese Protoss players? Luo "Legend" Xian is playing Kim Ku "KaL" Hyun in the opening match of Group B.
Other matches to set your eyes upon are the Terran Lee Young "Flash" Ho's games against Chinese Protoss Lei "Vulture" Hao.
Of course the ever so interesting Group D is a must to follow. Pavel "BRAT_OK" Kuznetsov, Oleksii "White-Ra" Krupnyk and Yang Chia "SEn" Cheng are expected to play out one of the most tight groups in WCG history. The fact that the group is Korean-free makes it the most open and interesting group.
Be with us as we witness the tenth StarCraft: Brood War tournament at the World Cyber Games!
