Since the start of July, excitement and rumors surrounding Starcraft 2 beta phase 2 have been approaching critical mass, a lot of speculation, a lot of rumors, and a lot of signs. Lets take a look at what we have so far, and see what we can piece together.
There has been a lot of activity over in the official Battle.net forums, and Blizzard's community posters have actually responded to some questions and concerns about the beta, and the release date. However many of the posts tend restate common knowledge about the release, and no much new can be pieced together from their responses.

We know everyone is anxious to get back in and play, but we're not far off of launch either. If you stand on your tippy toes and squint a bit, you can almost see it off in the distance.

Basically, we heard several different dates regarding Phase Two. We went from June 27th to July 1st and tomorrow we'll probably have a new one.
Just remember that all these dates are just speculations without an official confirmation from Blizzard.
We have no reason to hide our plans, you all know that Phase Two is coming anyway, we'll be more than happy to share with you the official date as soon as it will be available, don't worry!
I just don't want to create false expectations, I saw a lot of you being turned down after the "Phase Two in June!" rumor and I don't want that to happen again :)

I always find it interesting to see what people define "early" or "late" to mean. So, you're saying that "early July" is equal to the first half of July. It seems others thought that early July meant the 1st of July. Some seem to count the first week as early and the next two as mid.
That said, we'll keep you all informed on the start of the next phase, no worries. I'm just stunned that it's already July as of tomorrow. How time flies when you have a lot to get done before the exciting launch of a game. ;)

When questioned on the reason for a phase 2, and not just continuing the beta up until release.

The reason is - the infrastructure had to be prepared for the release and the huge number of players logging into our servers. A lot of minor bug fixing, perfecting small details and all the different things necessary to deliver an awesome product. Once it is all done, phase 2 will begin.

And just recently reports have surfaced saying that if you tried to log onto Battle.net with the Starcraft 2 client, a new error message would pop up implying there is a different client available.
While much of this might be loose speculation, it keeps the excitement alive, and keeps the community together even during beta downtime. So feel free to take a guess at when the beta will be coming back, and you can check back later and brag that you were right (or wrong)!
