Gen.G’s road through the Swiss Stage was less straightforward than expected. They opened with a win over
PSG Talon but stumbled against
Anyone's Legend in Round 2. Fate soon brought an early clash against long-time rivals
T1, where Gen.G prevailed before sealing their Knockout Stage spot with a commanding victory over
Top Esports. Their quarterfinal win over
Hanwha Life Esports seemed to reaffirm their championship form, until KT Rolster stopped them in their tracks.
KT Rolster, meanwhile, have been nothing short of dominant throughout Worlds 2025. They opened with a confident victory against
Movistar KOI, followed by a clean performance against
Team Secret Whales in Round 2. Their 2-0 sweep of Top Esports in Round 3 made them the first team to qualify for Knockouts, and their quarterfinals sweep of the Pacific champions
CTBC Flying Oyster sent them confidently into the semifinals.
How KT Rolster dismantled Gen.G
The opening game was a back-and-forth brawl, with both teams trading objectives and blows across the Rift. KT capitalised on a crucial mistake from Gen.G in the mid lane, turning the tides in their favour. Despite Gen.G’s attempts to fight back, a decisive Baron fight sealed KT’s victory, allowing them to march down and destroy Gen.G’s Nexus in 46 minutes, despite trailing 17-19 in kills.
Game two saw Gen.G regain their footing, executing cleaner team fights and punishing KT’s aggression. With a 25-15 kill lead, Gen.G took control of the map and closed the game after 39 minutes to even the series.
KT came roaring back in game three, taking full control from start to finish. Gen.G struggled to maintain composure as KT dominated every skirmish and objective, ending the match in just 29 minutes with a staggering 17-2 kill lead.
With momentum on their side, KT carried their dominance into game four. Gen.G barely found space to contest objectives as KT suffocated them across the map, maintaining a 10,000 gold advantage. After 35 minutes and a crushing 16-2 kill score, KT destroyed Gen.G’s Nexus to secure the series and their first-ever spot in the Worlds Grand Finals.
This marks a historic moment for KT Rolster, who will now face the winner of the second semifinal between T1 and Top Esports on Sunday, 9 November.
Meanwhile, Gen.G, end their Worlds 2025 run in 3rd–4th place, taking home US$400,000 in prize money.
