Golden Guardians recruit three Korean players to their roster

Golden Guardians are going for gold with this talented lineup.

After another subpar season that saw Golden Guardians finish in the bottom half of the LCS, the organisation has decided to bring in some much-needed reinforcements in the form of jungler Kim "River" Dong-woo, mid-laner Kim "Gori" Tae-woo, and support player Choi "huhi" Jae-hyun.

The likes of River will have no problem adjusting to the LCS as he was with Dignitas before this. As for huhi, he will be returning to GG after he left at the end of the 2020 season. Gori will be making his debut in the LCS, having previously played in the LCK and the LPL.

Both River and Gori also previously played for PSG Talon but at different parts of their career. However, having Gori's international experience will be instrumental in GG's playstyle over the course of the next season. He was voted the MVP of the PCS Summer Split this year while also boasting one LCK regional title.

As for River, he was part of the PSG Talon squad that dominated the PCS over the last two years with three regional titles to his name. Lastly, who can forget the veteran huhi with his two LCS titles while he was still in the mid-lane? Now in the support role, he was part of the 100 Thieves squad that won its first LCS title last year.

The three-man Korean acquisition will join up with toplaner Eric "Licorice" Ritchie and AD carry Trevor "Stixxay" Hayes. Both huhi and Stixxay were also former Counter Logic Gaming teammates during the 2016 season, which saw the two players lift their first LCS title together. Licorice is also known for his three-year stint at Cloud9, which saw him also come away with one LCS title.

As this squad boasts plenty of talent, experience, and a winner's mentality, they will now have to project that onto their playstyle and bring GG to new heights next season. While the organisation has managed to make it past the group stage of most of its regional splits, it's never truly gone far enough to make any sort of real progress in the LCS.

The upcoming season will be a real test of what GG is capable of as a team and as an organisation. Seeing as they were founded by the seven-time NBA champions the Golden State Warriors, GG will be wanting to add some silverware to the board to showcase that it does come from a championship-winning breed.

Finalised Golden Guardians Roster:
