Worlds 2022: DWG.KIA dominate G2 Esports to take the advantage in the rivalry

The LCK is looking strong at Worlds 2022.

DWG.KIA defeated G2 Esports in their opening match of Group B while furthering the LCK's record against the LEC. But that win was more than just a best-of-one for both teams. G2 sent DWG home in the quarterfinals of Worlds 2019. DWG did the same the following year in the semifinals while going on to win it as well. G2 would've been looking for revenge today but it will have to wait for now.

That win puts DWG top of Group B in the meantime with Evil Geniuses and JD Gaming playing later today. Having missed out on MSI this year, DWG wasted no time in imposing themselves on the world stage, showing everyone that the 2020 world champions are here to play. DWG's domination over G2 today was no fluke though; the LCK squad's draft was well-rounded with great tools of initiation.

Heo "ShowMaker" Su was one of DWG's standout performers in that game versus G2. Not only did he avoid dying the whole game, but he also added eight kills and four assists to his tally. His plays on Azir were crucial to DWG's entire composition, which started with a quick team wipe on G2 in the early game.

Aside from ShowMaker being one of the playmakers on DWG, Kim "Canyon" Geon-bu with his Leona and Kim "Kellin" Hyeong-Gyu on Graves were great initiators for the team. They were constantly a thorn in G2's side and created plenty of openings for the rest of the team to clean up.

From the first team wipe against G2, it never looked like they could truly catch up to DWG. While they did get a few kills on the board, it was never instrumental enough for them to mount a comeback. DWG ensured that whenever they were at a disadvantage, they would go after other objectives instead like pushing out lanes or taking down a turret.

G2's loss against DWG now puts them on a four-game losing streak, something they'll be hoping to break before the end of the group stage period. Their next game will be against Evil Geniuses tomorrow while DWG will go up against JD Gaming. Both EG and JD will be in action later today.
