The PCS Spring Split 2022 starts today featuring 6 new teams

The PCS Spring Split 2022 starts later today with six new teams making up the final roster.

With many of the top regional leagues already well underway into their spring splits, it's now time for the Pacific Championship Series (PCS) to start theirs. The PCS Spring Split 2022 starts today, February 11 2022 with a total of 10 teams vying for a single spot to this year's Mid-Season Invitational. It's also worth noting that this year's spring split will feature six new teams with the likes of PSG Talon, Beyond Gaming, J Team, and Impunity being the only survivors.

The six new teams make up three different regions in Southeast Asia, mainly Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Malaysia. Taiwan dominates the headlines with four of the new teams hailing from Taipei. This includes the likes of CTBC Flying Oyster, Deep Cross Gaming, Hurricane Gaming, and Meta Falcon Team. Frank Esports will represent Hong Kong while SEM9 of Malaysia, formerly known as Berjaya Dragons, rounds up the list of newcomers.

All ten teams will play in a double-round robin best-of-one format with every team playing a total of 18 games each. Teams that place from first to eighth will head for the playoffs with the first and second seed going straight to the semifinals. Teams that place from third to sixth will start in the quarterfinals and teams that finish in seventh and eighth will start in the first round of the lower bracket.

Playoffs will be in a double-elimination best-of-three format for the quarterfinals and the first round of the lower bracket. All other matches after that will be played in a best-of-five series. There will also be an $80,000 prize pool up for grabs.

Participating Teams

New Teams

It has been a huge shakeup in the PCS over the past few months with as many as six new teams coming into the fold. Alpha Esports has since rebranded itself into Hurricane Gaming while Berjaya Dragons got acquired by Malaysian esports organisation, SEM9.

We also had four teams that have left the PCS and in their place comes four new teams. Hong Kong Attitude slot got acquired by CTBC Flying Oyster while Deep Cross Gaming took over Liyab Esports' spot. Frank Esports took over Boom Esports' slot while Meta Falcon Team acquired Machi Esports' PCS slot.

However, while these may be new teams, the players are not with Flying Oyster boasting PCS veterans like Xiao-Xian "M1ssion" Chen and Chu "Gemini" Xuan Huang, formerly of J Team and Machi Esports respectively. Deep Cross Gaming also features three former J Team members like Chih "Hana" Hao Chen, Hung-Yu "Woody" Lin, and Bao-Yuan "Nestea" Hsu. The likes of Frank Esports, SEM9, Meta Falcon Team, and Hurricane Gaming will feature brand new rosters making their debut in the PCS.

SEM9 will see an all-Malaysian squad while Hurricane Gaming will feature four European imports. As for Meta Falcon Team, their roster is made up of a partnership with HungKuang University players joining the roster from the Champions of 2021 Asia Esports team Highest Goodness Like Water.

Veteran Stars

PSG Talon is the current back-to-back champion of the PCS Spring Split and they will be welcoming two South Korean, Lee "Juhan" Ju-han and Park "Bay" Jun-byeong from Nongshim RedForce Challengers. J Team welcomes three new members in the form of Hsiao "Kongyue" Jen-Tso from HKA, Chen "Uniboy" Chang-Chu from LGD Gaming in the LPL, and Liang "Enso" En-Shuo, formerly of SEM9. Lastly, there's Impunity who added four new players to their roster while keeping Teo "Blaze" Jia Xiang in the mid lane.

Six Weeks of Action

The PCS Spring Split starts tomorrow February 11 2022 with five games being played every week from Friday to Sunday for six weeks straight. This guarantees that every team will play three games every week. Be sure to catch all the action on Twitch.TV.
