T1 and EDward Gaming pull through Group B relatively unscathed Day 5 of Worlds 2021

Group B had its fair share of drama with T1 leaving it late to finish top of the group with EDward Gaming resigning themselves to second place.

While Group A brought plenty of action yesterday in the form of two tiebreakers, Group B was relatively straightforward but with a few twists along the way with one of it being T1 and their late charge to top the group. This left EDward Gaming in second place, which also meant that we bid goodbye to both 100 Thieves and Detonation FocusMe, who have been eliminated from Worlds.

The LCK is bringing the heat

With T1 topping Group B, that's now two LCK teams that have qualified directly to the knockout stage of Worlds 2021. Suffice to say, the LCK is bringing their A-game at Worlds this year. While DWG.KIA dominated their group, T1 had a rather slow start, picking up two wins and one loss before today.

However, today brought about a different T1; one that looked like the team of the past. T1 had to play back-to-back games, first against 100T and then EDG, both of which are top teams before facing DFM. To say T1 made light work of all three teams was an understatement; the former multi-Worlds winners were incisive, calculated, and clinical as they kept all three teams to single-digit kills whilst putting on show after show.

The LJL should be proud

Sadly, DFM's fairytale run at Worlds has come to an end. The team should be proud of what they've accomplished; being the first LJL squad to make it to the main event is a big step for the region as a whole. With every passing year, the LJL has looked more of a dominant force than ever before. Their Play-In Stage run was proof of that.

While their main event record leaves something to be desired, they should still hold their heads high. Even after going 0-6 in Group B, DFM never let that get to them and would bring the fight to their opponents on multiple occasions instead of sitting back. This is one team we won't be forgetting about anytime soon.

The meta is settling well

With 38 games played so far, the meta has already established itself pretty well with the likes of Miss Fortune, Lee Sin, Twisted Fate, Leona, and Graves leading the pack. Meanwhile, champions like Irelia, Yuumi, and Lucian have been banned the most. However, the most consistent champion to feature at Worlds so far is Lee Sin, who is either always picked or banned.

The Blind Monk has been a staple at Iceland, being picked 17 times and banned a further 21 times. An all-around support champion with a devastating ultimate that can turn the tides of a team fight, Lee Sin should feature for the rest of the tournament, whether in the ban or pick phase.

What to look forward to with Group C

Royal Never Give Up are currently top of the group with three wins and zero losses heading into tomorrow. Close behind are PSG Talon, followed by Hanwha Life Esports and lastly, Fnatic. While RNG is expected to easily make it through, stranger things have happened at Worlds before. I mean, look at what Cloud9 did the other day.

With that said, Group C will be one to watch as RNG, PSG T, and HLE will have something to prove. Of course, you can't discount Fnatic, no matter how much you would want to. While the team have yet to register their first win of the tournament, they could very well surprise all of us tomorrow and go three-and-zero for all we know.
