Flash Wolves take down G2 to win IEM Katowice 2017

After so many flubbed tournament showings and years of sitting on top of the LMS, the Flash Wolves have finally found the international success they wanted. Against the first-place team of the EU LCS, G2 Esports, the Flash Wolves were able to play slow and controlled games to strangle out the competition. It only took two games for them to secure victory over G2 and become the IEM Katowice 2017 world champions.

It was a team effort through and through, but Betty and Maple really showed up for the Wolves. Betty's Ashe arrows were on point and set up FW for picks on overextended G2 members, while Maple had a commanding Syndra and Ryze performance.

For European fans, G2's performance had to have been disappointing. Despite fantastic victories over the ROX Tigers and Kongdoo Monster, they couldn't find an opening against the Flash Wolves. Perkz in particular did poorly in the finals, with a 0/2/0 showing on LeBlanc and a fairly underwhelming Jayce game. Trick meanwhile played the early game excellently and secured first blood for G2 in both games, but his initial success wasn't enough for the team to recover.

G2 Esports looked great as the series began. Perkz was on LeBlanc in the midlane, Expect's Renekton was bullying out MMD's Nautilus, and Trick was able to secure first blood for the team. However, G2 ultimately proved to be unable to keep up with the Flash Wolves' macro game, and eventually a single bad fight reversed their advantages. A Baron secured for the Flash Wolves gave them all the fuel they needed to close in on G2's base, and with scaling on their side they were able to take the victory.

Game started on similar footing as game 1, with Trick finding first blood and G2 taking early objectives. However, their full damage comp needed to turn on the pressure as the midgame hit, and G2 just didn't hit the gas pedal hard enough. With skillful rotations, the Flash Wolves were able to keep G2 from taking any further objectives and eventually find a solid 4 for 0 teamfight. With their initiative lost and down in gold, G2 were barely able to fight back as the Flash Wolves slowly - but surely - strangled them out.
