IEM Katowice 2017: Day 3 recap

H2K vs. Hong Kong Esports

Thanks to the ROX Tigers, Hong Kong Esports had a chance to get revenge on H2K. They managed to pull out a win in a long, grindy game 1, but H2K rebounded well. Excellent early pressure translated into snowballing advantages that H2K rode all the way to victory, putting them into the quarterfinals.

Febiven proved to be the backbone of H2K throughout the series. His Command: Shockwaves in game 1 almost allowed H2K to turn around and win, while his Jayce in the subsequent matches was lights-out with a 5/1/17 KDA. Jankos also had fantastic series, snowballing early advantages in games 2 and 3 to get Febiven ahead.

Unicorns of Love vs. G2 Esports

IEM looked a little like the EU LCS in this matchup as the Unicorns of Love found their rematch with G2 Esports. However, despite their success at IEM in previous years, the Unicorns were no match for G2. It only took two snowbally games for G2 Esports to claim victory, though their executions were far sloppier than they should have been.

Perkz had a field day with the Unicorns of Love. Level 1 teamfights in both games netted him first blood, and G2's midlaner was able to quickly translate that advantage into extreme pressure in the laning phase. Despite being caught out a few times in game 2, Perkz still was able to post great numbers through the series. Trick also had excellent games, though the numbers show otherwise - he outjungled Xerxe at every turn, cementing his team's early leads.
