Riot announces details for MSI and Worlds 2016

The 2016 League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) is heading to the Shanghai, China, while the the League of Legends World Championship will travel across North America.

Riot Games is bringing the top teams from around the world directly to north America to face-off, going to San Francisco for the group stage before moving on to the Quarterfinals held in Chicago. The Semifinals will be held in New York City with the conclusion of Worlds 2016 at the Stables Center in Los Angeles.

Details for the 2016 Worlds are as follows:
 

  • Group Stage: September 29 until October 2 and October 6-9 at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, CA

  • Quarterfinals: October 13-16 at The Chicago Theater in Chicago, IL

  • Semifinals: October 21-22 at Madison Square Garden in New York, NY

  • Finals: October 29 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA

 

For the MSI, League of Legends teams from across the globe will head to the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center in May to battle out who will be crowned MSI Champion. The cross-regional clash will kick off on the 4th of May and will conclude on May the 15th with double the amount of games to be played as the format for the group stage was changed to double round-robin. The Semifinals are played as single elimination with a best-of-five series, as well as the grand final. Participating teams will be the winners of the Spring split from Europe, North America, China, Korea and the LMS. Additionally a wild card slot will be determined at the International Wild Card Invitational on April 16th until 23rd in Mexico City.

Details for the MSI 2016 are as follows:

 

  • Group Stage: May 4-8

  • Knockout stage: May 13-15

  • Format: Group Stage double round-robin, Knockout Stage best-of-five single elimination bracket

  • Participants: Spring split winners from NA LCS, EU LCS, LPL, LCK, and LMS, plus a wild card slot
