In a day with plenty of action, Quantic and The Walking Zed come out on top while Curse Academy and No Dice Gaming played a troll game of the ages.
Quantic vs. Curse Academy
While Curse Academy’s interesting lane setup with a solo-mid Vayne and an Annie/Brand bottom lane led to a strong early push, Quantic's jungler Prime on Shyvanna was able to punish the decision, securing first blood while diving Curse’s top laner Rhux on Jax with the help of Locodoco’s Lucian and Gunza’s Lulu. Quantic pressed their early advantage, taking a 10 minute dragon and a solid gold lead. Prime showed that his Shyvanna is to be feared, solo killing Rhux and constantly applying pressure to the top-lane, turning successful ganks into towers. The one shining light for Curse Academy, fabbbyyy’s Vayne, could not make up the deficit, and despite taking a Baron, Curse Academy folded under the pressure of a snowballing Quantic squad. Locodoco’s Korean squad continues to impress, as Quantic sealed it with an ace as 35 minutes, deftly smashing the Nexus along with Curse Academy.
Quantic vs. The Walking Zed
The game shifted in Quantic’s favor early, as an extremely early Dragon attempt by The Walking Zed was turned on its head: Quantic caught them, and took three kills for nothing. Not to be outdone by his teammate, Quantic top-laner Apple proved his prowess on Shyvanna, turning the half-dragon into a split-pushing menace while the rest of his team, led by an impressive performance by SuNo on Ahri, seized map control and towers. While The Walking Zed kept the kill count close for most of the game on the back of Bischu’s solid play on Orianna, they could not recover from the disastrous start to the game. By 30 minutes, Quantic had amassed a 10k gold lead, and from there it was all but over; Quantic dove the base to finish the game, sweeping up a handful of kills to secure victory at 37 into the match.
Quantic vs. No Dice Gaming
A smart invade saw Quantic pounce onto No Dice Gaming marksman Neeko for first blood, and from there Prime continued to impress on Lee Sin, applying pressure all across the map and securing a pair of early kills for his team. Quanitc continued to press their advantage, showing off their lane domimance, with SuNo’s Orianna solo killing of ph4rmE on Ahri and Apple's Elise sinking her fangs into RF Legendary’s Dr. Mundo. Despite small signs of life, it was all downhill for No Dice Gaming, as they only managed to secure four kills before Quantic took the game in just shy of 20 minutes.
The Walking Zed vs. No Dice Gaming
With both teams looking for redemption after crushing losses at the hands of Quantic, The Walking Zed squared off against No Dice Gaming. Victory in this game was the only option if either team wanted to have a chance to escape the group stage. The newest member of TWZ, marksman player bobbyhankhill, stepped up to the challenge, dominating his lane while mid-laner Bischu also shined as Graggas. TWZ turned an early laning advantage into midgame power, securing kills, dragons and towers all across the map. With a 10k gold lead at 25 minutes, TWZ went for the jugular, scoring an ace and closing out the game.
Curse Academy vs. The Walking Zed
In a do or die game, Curse Academy took a risky gamble, putting mid-laner OnlyJaximus on AP Sion. However, while Curse Academy gained a modest early advantage, the slow start of the game heavily favored TWZ, as Yazuki on Nasus and bobbyhankhill on Vayne were ticking time bombs, getting extremely farmed and grabbing a few kills. A skirmish at Dragon saw TWZ execute the comeback, picking up three kills for one to even the gold deficit. Later, a risky call to attempt Baron from Curse Academy led to disaster: Tsatsulow on Sona missed his ultimate, leaving the door open for bobbyhankhill to rip through Curse and take away the Baron. The late game scaling on TWZ could not be denied, as Yazuki and bobby went to town on Curse’s base, destroying the Nexus just shy of 35 minutes. TWZ advance out of the group stage, crushing Curse Academy’s hopes.
Curse Academy vs. No Dice Gaming
In what was essentially a consolation game, 0-2 Curse Academy took on the equally winless No Dice. Curse’s bot-lane duo of fabbbyyy and Tsatsulow got things started off right, picking off Neeko’s Caitlyn for first blood. Across the map, No Dice's jungler, Belah, made plays, securing kills on Rhux’s Riven and OneBadBrad’s Lee Sin. The game broke Curse’s way after a well-executed dive bot-lane, securing a pair of kills and a tower for fabbbyyy’s Jinx as well as a Dragon. No Dice could not answer the mid-game damage coming out of Riven, Jinx and OnlyJaximus on Zed, and Curse seized map control and a massive tower advantage. While No Dice managed to equalize the kill score, the gold deficit was too much to overcome. The rest of the game was a hectic and humorous series of fights which saw Curse Academy often overextend, and No Dice punishing their aggression. This ended in the result that despite getting aced, the super minions won the game on behalf of Curse. With 80 kills in 38 minutes, this game was a trolly mess, but fun all the same.
