The current top meta Champions in League of Legends

Want to start climbing the leaderboards in League of Legends?

Much like many other modern-day MOBAs and such, League of Legends is an ever-evolving game that grows over time. In order to keep the game interesting and balanced, patch notes are introduced every few weeks to give the game some semblance of balance alongside fixing bugs and keeping the game balanced.

And with patch updates also come buffs and nerfs to certain Champions. Essentially, this is what determines the current meta of the game. It's also worth noting that this article is based on the current 11.2 patch update.

With all that said and done, here are the current meta Champions that you should be picking to climb the rankings.

Top Lane

The top lane is usually where you'll find tank or bruiser champions clashing it out in a 1v1 battle. If you're a top lane player, your role is to generally farm up as much as you can during the landing phase, allowing you to rack up enough gold to grow in the later portions of the game.

You'll also want a champion that is capable of running multiple strategies, whether it be split-pushing or team fighting.

Here are some of the best champions to pick when you're playing in the top lane:

  • Ornn
  • Cho'Gath
  • Darius
  • Wukong
  • Renekton

Mid Lane

The mid-lane is one of the more popular roles in League of Legends, much like Dota 2 as well. Arguably the most versatile of the three, the mid lane allows for a wider pool of champions to choose from, giving you greater freedom and versatility.

For the mid-lane, you'll want a champion that is not only good at team fights but also at pushing waves as well as scaling to the later portions of the game.

These are some of the best mid lane champions to choose from:

  • Orianna
  • Zoe
  • Seraphine
  • LeBlanc
  • Akali

Bot Lane

Home for the ADCs, the bot lane is usually a do-or-die lane for many. It's either you are able to farm up from the early stages, which then leads to skirmishes and team fights going in your favour or you just end up losing the game.

With most ADC champions coming from the marksmen category, it's essentially a glass cannon. However, you will naturally have greater capabilities to carry the game so long as you can mount a comeback, which will lead to a snowball effect.

These are some of the bot lane champions you can consider:

  • Jhin
  • Ezreal
  • Miss Fortune
  • Kai'sa
  • Samira

Support

Arguably one of the most important roles in most MOBAs would be the support role. It's usually a position that doesn't get the level of respect and recognition as the others. But that doesn't mean that being a support player isn't key to you winning games.

The supports are the eyes, ears, and sometimes brains of the team, providing crowd control, vision, peeling, or even providing some much-needed damage to a team fight.

If you're looking to take on a support role, you can check out these Champions:

  • Morgana
  • Thresh
  • Leona
  • Alistar
  • Galio

Jungler

Usually considered as the second semi-support, junglers often confine themselves to the woods and roaming around the map looking for kills. Much like supports, junglers also need keen map awareness to be able to react and rotate accordingly as well as keeping track of neutral monster camp spawns.

To fully excel in the jungle role, you'll need to be able to play catch-up with the rest of your team by slaying countless neutrals while also rotating for skirmishes and team fights to gain gold and experience.

Here are some junglers you can play:

  • Olaf
  • Graves
  • Nidalee
  • Lillia
  • Karthus
