MiTH.s2y: "DreamHack was a huge learning experience"

Made in Thailand.Sorry Sorry is in the Grand Finals of the Thai HoN Tour, they just came back from their debut on the international stage at DreamHack Summer 2013, so they are the story right now. GosuGamers.net had the opportunity to ask them about their DreamHack experience and the future of Thai HoN.

Hey guys, thanks for taking the time for this interview. First things first: how was the trip to Sweden?

It was a really good trip. We gained a lot of experiences on our road and to see how big eSports events are in Europe and probably in the whole world was just special. We really hope to feed off of this experience and use it as a foundation for our future. On an unrelated note, the food and the weather in Sweden was pretty great when we were there.

How was the DreamHack experience overall?

As we mentioned above, we gained plenty of experience – essentially what we wanted. These kind of large events are every attractive to gamers whereever they are hosted. It was our dream to have the chance to be part of something as big and as great, so we are really proud and happy that we were blessed to attend it.

Met any interesting or fascinating people?

Oh sure. Before we went we said that we simply want to me everyone. Everyone of us has some sort of idols in HoN and all across the scenes. One common main personal idol for all of us was definitely NoVa, due to his style, his success and his look like he just came off of a Harley. Nevertheless, he looked smart and was one of our idols for a very long time, so it was something very special and great to finally have the chance to meet him at this event.

How was it to meet up with all those players?

All of them are really great eSports players and within all of the players they seem to have such a strong friendship etc. They all knew that our English was not really great to communicate with, but everyone still tried to talk to us and understand us – we feel like that is what we want to see in an eSports scene like Heroes of Newerth with all players we met. Finally once again really glad to meet NoVa, that Harley style, he REALLY looks like someone that drives those things.

Did you communicate in any ways with Neolution eSports.MRR before your trip on what you can expect in the tournament/venue/event?

We didn't really get a chance to talk to MRR to a large extend before me made the trip, so we didn't get much information about the venue or the event itself. However, we had talks with former MMR players that made the trip, so we had some idea of how to prepare, what we can expect and what kind of stuff awaits us.

Was there any LAN event you guys attended, that comes close to the experience and the atmosphere of the DreamHack?

Not really, not because the SEA eSports scene is a bit smaller than it is in the US or over in Europe, but we as a team didn't really got much of a chance to attend those large events such as DreamHack before.

How were your nerves going into the first series against Stay Green?

Ha, they were our targets to beat, since we met them in the Garena Star League 2013, the event that was hosted in our home country Thailand, plus they were the favorites heading into the event so we were definitely psyched. We did study them a lot before the event and had a pretty good grip and plans on how we might be able to beat them. We thought we might be able to really surprise them right out of the gates since there are little information about us as a team. However, we all know the result.

You made it very clear before the match, that you wanted to take on Stay Green during the event - how was it to get that wish granted right off the bat?

Well judging by the result it wasn't that good. Haha. They are the gold standard in HoN right now, so we will target them for a long time to come, as long as we play together and might get the opportunity to play them. They are an absolutely great team in pretty much every way, so we weren't frustrated after the loss. Still we as a team set our goals very high, so we can get better and better – we hope to achieve the goal to beat sG in the near future.

Looking back at the games, what is the biggest thing you take away from competing against teams like Stay Green, sG.eu or compLexity Gaming?

In the absolute top of the HoN scene every player and every team is just absolutely phenomenal, but we think in terms of individual skill they don't have much of an advantage, or only a slight one. The problem for us currently is mostly teamwork and making small and big mistakes during the games. Those things will be abolished by a lot of training, so we will make much more in that aspect before we get the chance to meet them again.

Will this experience help you extend your dominance in the Thai scene?

Ha, as we mentioned at the event already, every losing game gives you a chance to improve yourself and learn from your mistakes. We gained the best experience in this event and this losing experience will bring us even further as a team. We hope to become better and greater, so obviously we hope that we can continue to dominate the Thai scene and go from there.

Which game will be the most memorable of them all?

Oh definitely the first game of the competition, the one versus Stay Green. They were our „dream opponent“ going into the event, they were the team we desperately wanted to beat and prepared a lot for. As for the game, we believe that we presented ourselves in great shape early on, but failed in team fights in the mid game, which made us look like weaklings in the later stages of the competition. Those small team fight mistakes and bad decisions led to our failure, but it was our most memorable match of this event – for several reasons.

What is the thing that is separating you from the top teams still?

We wold say the constant competition with the best teams in the whole world. The greater the enemy, the better the improvement those meetings provide. If we would have the chance to compete with those teams pretty much every time in the international tournament scene, we believe we could increase our skills and team significantly and play up to their level someday.

Which team surprised you the most, both negative and positive?

Well, we don't really want to say anything negative about the event, nor have we seen anything real negative. As for the positives you obviously have to name vdT. We think they came prepared and they really played a terrific event.

You were quite confident heading into the event, how disappointed are you to only finish 5th/6th?

Ha, our experience from this event is still great, but of course we are a bit disappointed as every single team heading into a tournament is aiming for the top spot. However, we have shown that Thai teams are getting better, comparing to MRR last Winter, we come home with a higher rank, but still not Top 4. Whatever, those four teams that stood on top of the tournament really deserve it, they prepare a lot and have good teams to practice with, they truely deserve it.

What are the next goals for your team, both national and international?

Be NUMBER 1, of course. Even when it seems far fetched of a goal, be we strive for the best possible results, we set our goals high and want to improve as much as possible. We will train harder to reach those goals and reach dominance as soon as possible.

How would you guys describe the general state of the Thai scene, with you and TurM currently sitting on top? Interesting teams coming up?

The Thai scene is filled with plenty of competitive teams, you constantly have the chance to win or lose, because the teams there are no joke. However our results are mostly better on the win side and we hope to keep it that way. Still there are plenty of interesting teams coming into the scene, so we really need to prepare and be on top of our game to continue our winning streak and the dominance over the Thai scene.

Will we see you back for sure on the international stage? ;)

For sure! If we get the chance again, we would like to be a part of every single international tournament and be on every single international stage! We will do better and better with those experiences!

Any final shoutouts?

We would just like to thank every supporter that was always with us. Every fan, especially our parents, families and friends. Also a huge thanks to our sponsor MiTH, that is taking very good care of us. Also big thanks to Garena for hosting a tournament, that allowed us to be granted the opportunity to be part of such an amazing eSport event. Lastly: „We are „MiTH.S2Y“, we aren't the best, but we'll do our best in every competition!“
