Freitez Wins EPT Madrid Grand Final

Venezualan Ivan Freitez, who had come into the final table with a 2-1 chip lead on the second place player rode that advantage to the a win in the €10,000 buy-in EPT Madrid Grand Final at the Casino Gran Madrid. Freitez defeated the German Torsten Brinkmann heads up to collect the €1,500,000, the title, and entry into the Champion of Champions tournament that will begin tomorrow.

Alex Gomes who was going for a Triple Crown of three major wins on three major tours came up short in 7th. The former chess master and previous day chip leader American Eugene Yanayt went out in 6th. Then the hopes of the first ever Spanish EPT champion were dashed when Juan Maceiras went out in 5th.

They took a four hour break when the play was four handed with the chip counts as follows:

Ivan Freitez - 7,720,000
Torsten Brinkmann - 6,750,000
Tamas Lendvai - 3,790,000
Andrew Danilyuk - 2,460,000

Heads up with a nice lead, Freitez bided his time but called an all-in shove by a shorter Brinkman who had A,K and Freitez had a suited 9,10 that made one pair on a 5,2,9,6,8 board.
