In a brief interview with CardPlayer, Gus Hansen dissed fellow high stakes pro Ilari ‘Ziigmund’ Sahamies regarding his recent play. In a case of what have you done lately, Hansen, who is 2011's biggest winner in the high stakes games, stated that Sahamies needs a reality check. Choosing to strike while he has been doing well, Hansen called out Ziigmund regarding his reckless play at the high stakes PLO tables."Who do they think they are? John Wayne? I know "Ziigmund" thinks he can deep stack outplay anyone in the world, but obviously looking at his results he can't," Hansen said.
The Danish Team Full Tilt pro has had a tremendous year, up around $3.5 million so far after suffering nearly a year long downswing in which he learned he had to learn from earlier mistakes before turning things around.
"Why do you want to put in $500,000 in a $200-$400 game just to get it all in when you have top set against flush and straight draws. Why do you want to flip a coin for that amount? It seems like players today think the bigger the better, because they think they are the greatest of all time,"
Hansen clearly feels the Finn is too reckless. Ziigmund has been struggling online since last summer and after a small upswing to start the the year he finds himself stuck $600k in 2011. But if you go back further in their collective results, the upper hand shifts. Ziigmund is up still $1 million since he first started playing on Full Tilt Poker in 2007 while Hansen has been losing for years and still is down $3.5 million over his lifetime of playing online.
