GTA VI’s Netflix showcase enjoyed a smashing debut last week, racking up more than 31 million views.
Grand Theft Auto (GTA)'s hype is looking stronger than ever, as Variety reported that the game’s 27-minute “extended look” on Netflix raked in 31.1 million views in just four days. The record also saw GTA VI become the most-watched Netflix title globally that week.
It took just four days, from Thursday, 27 August to Sunday, 30 August, for the showcase to rack up massive viewership numbers to spearhead Netflix's weekly Top 10 ranking. It surpassed every other English-language title that week, including a thriller film “The Whisper Man” which boasts a star-studded cast.

How many people watched the GTA VI showcase on Netflix?
The 27-minute GTA VI gameplay showcase generated 31.1 million views between 27 and 30 August, 2026. It reached No. 1 in 87 of the 93 countries tracked by Netflix, making it the most-watched title on the platform that week.
Rockstar’s showcase notably surpassed Robert De Niro and Michael Keaton’s thriller The Whisper Man, which recorded 23.2 million views during the same period.
The gameplay showcase was exclusive to Netflix for its first six hours before being released on YouTube. However, it appears that many viewers were already tuning in through Netflix, with its 31.1 million views nearly doubling the showcase’s tally of around 17 million views on YouTube around the same period. It now holds over 20 million views on YouTube.
While game showcases on Netflix are virtually unheard of, GTA VI seemed like the perfect title to break new ground. It is one of the most-anticipated releases in modern gaming, having first been officially acknowledged by Rockstar in 2022 with an initial Fall 2025 release window. It was subsequently delayed to May 2026 before being pushed back once more to its current November 2026 release date.
The game carries Rockstar’s towering reputation, a reported US$1.5 billion budget and the nostalgia surrounding the Grand Theft Auto franchise, all of which could help it achieve potentially record-breaking profits.
Its successful showcase on Netflix has only further fuelled GTA VI’s already enormous hype, with the game now less than three months away from its global release on 19 November for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
