GTA VI leaks allegedly show driving gameplay, six-star wanted system, and Leonida map

Unconfirmed GTA VI footage is spreading fast, and the leaked gameplay contains plenty for players to pick apart.

A new batch of unconfirmed GTA VI material is making the rounds online, and there is a surprising amount of information buried in just the two short gameplay clips.

The leak surfaced on 19 August alongside an image claiming to show the full map of Leonida. Details visible across the footage and UI point to several mechanics Rockstar has yet to discuss publicly, while the alleged map offers a much wider look at the game's setting.

The material has been circulating through places including ResetEra and Reddit. GamesRadar reports that Take-Two has been issuing DMCA takedowns as copies spread online.

More importantly, Rockstar has not confirmed that the footage or purported map is genuine, and their age and provenance remain unclear. Even if legitimate, the material might come from an older build and include elements that have since been changed or removed.

Grand Theft Auto VI

GTA VI leaked gameplay

Some alleged GTA VI leaks have surfaced online.

Basketball appears to be playable in GTA VI, with one clip reportedly showing Jason shooting hoops outside his waterfront home. The minigame seems to use a timing mechanic where players press a button as two rings overlap.

On top of that, sinking a shot appears to award Jason "+2% Focus", suggesting GTA VI could allow its protagonists to improve individual attributes through activities. Exactly what Focus does isn't clear.

PC Gamer's analysis of the leaked gameplay also spotted two dollar values on the HUD. Jason appears to have US$39 alongside another US$1,643 next to a house icon, although there isn't enough information to establish what the second figure represents.

Another clip puts Jason behind the wheel, where his vehicle becomes involved in a collision with a Scoop delivery truck. A confrontation follows, with Jason attacking the driver with a wrench before fleeing as police arrive. The clip ends as Jason drives towards an area where a helicopter can be seen nearby.

GTA VI six-star wanted system

GTA VI will allegedly have a six-star wanted level system.

Six-star wanted levels could be making a comeback in GTA VI. The footage shows six available stars in the wanted UI, bringing back the higher maximum after GTA V capped its wanted system at five.

Escaping the cops may also involve more than simply getting out of sight. Three icons alongside the wanted information appear to identify Jason's clothing, appearance and vehicle, suggesting police could keep track of what the player is wearing and driving during a search.

Another blue indicator appears as officers close in on Jason, seemingly tracking how close they are to detecting him.

The same encounter also appears to show a stamina system. A meter drains while Jason fights the delivery driver and eventually reaches zero.

A devil-like icon accompanied by a minus symbol also appears after Jason continues attacking the driver while he is already down. The indicator has prompted comparisons with Red Dead Redemption 2's Honour system, but there isn't enough context to confirm that GTA VI has a morality system, or determine what the icon is actually tracking.

GTA VI vehicle fuel and storage system

Keeping a favourite car around could take a little more work in GTA VI. The vehicle HUD includes separate fuel and engine-condition indicators, while the vehicle menu shows options for "Loadout" and "Storage 0/4".

The fuel gauge suggests vehicles may need to be refuelled, although the footage doesn't show what happens when one runs dry. Meanwhile, the loadout and storage options could allow players to keep equipment or other items in their vehicles.

Several fictional businesses and brands can also be spotted during the gameplay, including 24/7 Supermarket and Sea Shark, alongside Scoop, Arrow and what appears to be Hamilton Private Health Clinic and Fast Pass EMS.

The driving clip also appears to feature "Impact" by SG Lewis, Robyn, and Channel Tres, according to PC Gamer.

GTA VI full Leonida map leak

An alleged Leonida map was among the leaks that surfaced online.

Vice City is only part of what the alleged map appears to cover. An image claiming to show the full Leonida map has been circulating alongside the gameplay clips, stretching across a much larger landmass surrounding the city.

The alleged full Leonida map reportedly includes Lummox County, Kelly County, Leonard County, Vice Dale County, and Mariana County. Jason's home also appears to be marked towards the southern end of Leonida in the Keys.

The map could reveal something about how GTA VI handles its two protagonists as well. A car icon marked with a "J" appears while the player's own position is elsewhere, potentially indicating that Jason's location remains visible while playing as Lucia. That would differ from GTA V, where Michael, Franklin, and Trevor generally weren't displayed as persistent map locations while controlling another protagonist.

The player's marker also appears offshore, potentially aboard a boat or aircraft. Several small tracks visible across Leonida could be racetracks, although there isn't enough information to confirm whether they represent racing activities.

As with the gameplay footage, the map has not been authenticated by Rockstar.

Who is the GTA VI leaker?

Cyberleek threatens to release more if demands aren't met.

An online group calling itself Cyberleek has claimed responsibility for releasing the GTA VI material, and it is threatening to target other game publishers next.

As detailed by Kotaku, Cyberleek published a manifesto laying out three demands for publishers: an end to digital pre-orders, an end to what it calls "fake single-player DLC", and offline fallbacks that keep single-player content playable when online services shut down.

The group warns that publishers which fail to meet those demands could also become targets, using Rockstar and GTA VI as an example of what it claims it is prepared to do.

Its complaints also overlap with some of GTA VI's current release plans. Rockstar opened digital preorders earlier this year, while the game's Ultimate Edition includes additional vehicles, weapons, cosmetics and other bonuses. Kotaku points to those extras as one possible reason Cyberleek considers Rockstar a target under its complaint about locked single-player content.

On top of that, Cyberleek is using the attention around the leak to promote a cryptocurrency. GamesRadar reports that the group is promoting a memecoin and claims the money raised will fund an undisclosed "secret project".

Cyberleek insists the fundraising effort is "not a cash grab", but has not explained what the secret project is or how the money would be used. The alleged GTA VI map also reportedly carries promotion for the cryptocurrency.

This would not be the first major GTA VI leak in its development history. More than 90 videos and images from an early development build surfaced following a major security breach in 2022, while the game's first trailer appeared online less than 24 hours before its scheduled premiere in 2023. Rockstar also confirmed a separate third-party data breach earlier this year, although it said the incident had no impact on its organisation or players.

The latest leak comes just over a week before Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look debuts on 27 August, which will premiere on Netflix before arriving on other platforms, including YouTube, six hours later. Until Rockstar comments on the material or officially shows the same mechanics in-game, everything attributed to the new footage and map remains unconfirmed.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on 19 November, 2026.
