Nintendo Direct has confirmed some time-hopping shenanigans for the next Fire Emblem.
Nintendo released a Nintendo Direct this week to dive into Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, the next installment in its beloved tactical RPG Fire Emblem franchise. The 22-minute Nintendo Direct showed off more details for the upcoming game, including its main protagonist, multiple story routes, and more.

What is Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave about?
Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is set five years after the Heroic Games, as the Dagdan Empire faces a dark fate at the hands of the resurrected demon god Balor. The Four Heroes who played a major part in the Heroic Games have vanished, and the only person left to save the world from imminent doom is you, the main protagonist.
Players will be able to travel down different paths in the main story depending on their choices. They can either attempt to change the fates of the four Heroes or face down the demon god Balor on their own. They can also travel back in time to the Heroic Games and step into the shoes of the four Heroes, which will affect the story moving forward.
The Heroic Games are a series of matches meant to pay tribute to the Empire’s first king Dagda, who would grant a wish to the ultimate winner upon their victory. The four Heroes are:
- Cai
- Dietrich
- Theodora
- Leda
Players can save their progress while playing through each Hero’s route, and play through the other Heroes’ stories in parallel. As players prepare themselves for battle, they can explore Dagsion and partake in a variety of activities. For example, they can train in the Arena, purchase weapons in the Shopping Arcade, or volunteer at Temple Row.
Outside of Dagsion, time will pass every time the player moves. They can explore dungeons for loot and weapon-upgrading materials, while taking on enemies in tactical battles. The player’s units come in the following classes, with five Beginner classes, 10 Specialty classes, and more Advanced classes.
During battle, players will have to strategically position their units and make use of a mix of ranged and close-combat weapons to win the day. Positioning is key to victory, but combat arts can also be unleashed for more damaging attacks at the cost of weapon durability. If things don’t turn out the way players might have hoped, they can turn back time to redo the battle.
Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on 17 September, 2026.
