Persona live-action Netflix series reportedly in development with Stranger Things team

Before Persona 6 or Persona 4 Revival arrive, the series is already charting its next destination.

Netflix is reportedly developing a live-action television series based on the Persona franchise, bringing one of gaming's most beloved RPG series to the growing list of video game adaptations making the jump to television.

According to a report by Variety, Christopher Monfette will write the series, and serve as its showrunner and executive producer. The project also includes Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, and Robert Atwood as executive producers through 21 Laps, alongside Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg and Timothy I. Stevenson from Story Kitchen.

Toru Nakahara of SEGA is also working on the project as an executive producer, while Emily Feher is overseeing it for 21 Laps under the company's overall television deal with Netflix.

What could Netflix's Persona series be about?

Will the Persona TV adaptation follow SEES, the Investigation Team, the Phantom Thieves, or an entirely new set of characters? Netflix isn't saying just yet. The streaming giant hasn't revealed whether the live-action series will adapt an existing Persona game or tell a completely new story set within the Persona universe. With five mainline games, numerous spin-offs, and multiple remakes released since the franchise began in 1996, the series has no shortage of stories, characters, and supernatural worlds to draw from.

The most recent numbered entry, Persona 5, introduced players to the Phantom Thieves when it launched in 2016, before expanding its story with Persona 5 Royal in 2024. And there's plenty more Persona on the horizon, with Persona 6 officially confirmed to be in development in June 2026, Persona 5: The Phantom X launching in 2025, and Persona 4 Revival now scheduled for release in February 2027.

For now, though, Netflix is keeping its cards close to its chest. No story details, casting announcements, or release windows have been revealed, leaving fans to speculate about whether the series will revisit familiar faces or head somewhere entirely new.

Who is making the Persona live-action adaptation?

Christopher Monfette is leading the adaptation as writer, showrunner, and executive producer. He has previously worked on 12 Monkeys, Star Trek: Picard and 9-1-1, and is also working as writer and co-executive producer on the upcoming Marvel Disney+ series VisionQuest.

The project also brings together 21 Laps, the studio behind Netflix's Stranger Things, The Perfect Couple, and Last Man Standing. On the film side, the company has also worked on Deadpool & Wolverine and Backrooms, with Shawn Levy directing and co-writing the former project.

Story Kitchen is also involved in the adaptation. The company specialises in bringing video games and other non-traditional IP to film and television, with live-action adaptations of Tomb Raider and Life Is Strange already in development.

If the Persona series moves ahead, it will join a growing line-up of game adaptations on Netflix. The streaming platform has previously released adaptations like Arcane, Devil May Cry, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.

Further details about the Persona adaptation, including its story, cast and release timeline, have yet to be announced.
