Pearl Abyss continues to release frequent patches to improve its latest hit, Crimson Desert.
A new patch for Crimson Desert has been released, bringing a range of quality-of-life improvements. The developer, Pearl Abyss, is not only addressing bugs through these regular updates, but also introducing small amounts of new content to help the game evolve–making exploration across Pywel more efficient and engaging.
Crimson Desert
Release Date: 19 March, 2026
Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, macOS, GeForce Now, Microsoft Windows, Mac operating systems
Developer: Pearl Abyss
One of the most notable additions in Patch 1.03 concerns the Greymane camp, although details have been marked as spoilers. Players interested in learning more can refer to the drop-down section in the official patch notes, or scroll to our highlighted patch notes below.
This update also focuses on improving the viability of other playable characters, Damiane and Oonga, particularly for open-world exploration in Pywel. Both characters now possess ability kits more closely aligned with that of the main protagonist, Kliff. Abilities such as ‘Shield Toss’ and ‘Scatter Shot’ have been adjusted to better mimic Kliff’s ‘Force Palm’, while both characters also gain new abilities including ‘Axiom Force’, ‘Nature’s Snare’, and more.
Additionally, Kliff receives a new ability called Focused Aerial Roll, which can be activated by using ‘Focus’ mid-air and then pressing the dodge key. Beyond these newly-added abilities, accessing the Abyss Nexus is now significantly easier. Players can teleport while performing other actions, including riding mounts, falling, swimming, or climbing.
Several enhancements have also been made to the minimap to improve visibility. Opened treasure chests now display a distinct icon, caves are differentiated based on whether they have been visited, and Abyss locations are marked to indicate whether they have been restored.
Further graphical settings have been introduced to allow players to better tailor the experience to their preferences and hardware capabilities. These include features such as PSSR Sharpness (for PlayStation 5 Pro), Intel XeSS Frame Generation (for PC), as well as overall improvements to lighting, reflections, and additional font size options.
Overall, Crimson Desert is improving rapidly, having received frequent hotfixes and updates since its launch on 19 March, 2026. This could be the major contributor to its consistent sales the past few weeks, with the game continuing to attract new players and recently surpassing 4 million copies sold–making it one of the best-selling titles of the year so far.
What is Crimson Desert about?
Crimson Desert features a vast open-world RPG experience. It was originally planned as a prequel to Black Desert Online, but shifted during development into a standalone single-player title. This pivot appears to have paid off, with both players and critics praising its diverse world, creative combat system, and the way its multiple gameplay concepts mesh cohesively.
The game follows Kliff, a mercenary leader of the Greymanes. After his group is ambushed and destroyed by a rival faction known as the Black Bears, Kliff and the remaining survivors set out to reunite, recover, and seek revenge.
