Buying a new PlayStation 5 is about to cost more. Sony has confirmed global price increases for the PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal, announced via the PlayStation Blog on 27 March. The new pricing takes effect from 2 April 2026.
Sony said that the decision comes amid “continued pressures in the global economic landscape,” following what it described as a careful evaluation.

Other regions will vary, with Sony directing players to local retailers or direct.playstation.com for exact pricing. The PlayStation Portal is also getting a price bump on the same date, bringing it in line with the wider hardware increase.

Why are PS5 prices increasing?
Sony has tied the changes to broader economic pressures, stating that the increase is needed to continue delivering “high-quality gaming experiences” globally. No hardware changes or new revisions were announced alongside the pricing update.
When do the new PS5 prices take effect?
The new prices go live on 2 April 2026, applying across multiple regions at once.
Players planning to pick up a console or a Portal before then would have purchase soon, since current pricing will remain in place until the update rolls out.
