Rockstar Games' Edinburgh Studio has reopened today.
Rockstar North, one of the studios under Grand Theft Auto VI maker Rockstar Games, has officially reopened its doors today, following a sudden explosion that occurred at its office yesterday. The incident reportedly caused “structural damage” at the Edinburgh-based office, and was attended to by emergency services.
Thankfully, there have been no reported casualties.
Rockstar North studio reopens after heating boiler malfunction
According to IGN, Rockstar Games’ Rockstar North Studio, headquartered in Edinburgh, Scotland, suffered “structural damage” following a sudden explosion in its boiler room. The outlet reports that seven vehicles were sent to the office following the incident, with emergency services attending to the building and securing damage for over four hours.
IGN shared a statement from Rockstar on the matter, which thankfully confirmed that the studio and its staff were “well,” saying:
"Early Monday morning, there was a malfunction in one of the heating boilers at Rockstar North. Many thanks to those that reached out with concern, and also to the police and fire crews who were on scene quickly to assess the situation–please know that everyone is well and our studio remains open and operational."
Despite the reported “structural damage,” it appears that the explosion and its effects have been contained, and Rockstar North’s staff is already back to work as of today. Rockstar Games’ next big release is, of course, Grand Theft Auto VI.
The highly ambitious open-world game is now set to launch on 19 November, 2026, following a series of delays.
