Fortnite's South Park collab trailer drops, confirming arrival of Quints five-player mode

Butters, Cartman and the gang are dropping into Fortnite in full South Park style, and five-player squads are finally here.

Epic Games have officially released the trailer for the Fortnite x South Park collaboration, offering the first proper look at the crossover and confirming a new five-player battle royale mode called Quints. The short stars Butters, Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny dropping into Fortnite together, marking the franchise’s latest pop culture crossover.

The trailer was published earlier today following a low-quality leak that surfaced online. While the leaked footage showed much of the crossover content, Epic’s official release fills in several missing details ahead of the event’s launch on Friday, 9 January.

Official trailer expands on South Park crossover short

Epic’s newly-released trailer is noticeably longer than the leaked footage, extending the runtime by roughly-two-and-a-half minutes. Much of that additional time is spent on brand-new animated segments, presented in South Park’s familiar paper cut-out style of animation.

The short shows Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny loading into Fortnite together, while Butters is left waiting in a lobby after being deemed a liability. “Actually, you just suck at Fortnite,” Cartman says. “It’s not even lowkey.”

Wearing his Professor Chaos outfit and wielding the Stick of Truth, Butters eventually intervenes by transforming the South Park school bus into a fully fledged Battle Bus, sending the group into Fortnite, Cartmanland included.

The crossover follows a busy period for Fortnite, with plenty of collaborations like KPop Demon Hunters, Kill Bill, Kim Kardashian, and Percy Jackson. The game recently ranked among the most-played games on PlayStation and Xbox in 2025.

Quints mode brings five-player squads to Fortnite

The trailer sets up Epic’s major gameplay addition: Quints, a limited-time five-player playlist. According to the trailer description, Quints will be available until 5 February, giving players a larger squad option than standard modes.

The South Park characters appear as mech-style battle royale skins, with Epic confirming that Quints will remain live for the duration of the event. Further gameplay details have yet to be shared.

Born in Chaos pass confirmed for Fortnite x South Park event

Alongside the new mode, Epic have confirmed that the crossover’s Born in Chaos pass will be free. Unlike previous mini passes, which typically included skins and required payment, this pass will not grant the new South Park outfits.

Instead, the crossover skins will be available separately through the in-game Shop.

The Fortnite x South Park crossover will run as a limited-time event, with Quints positioned as its headline playlist and additional crossover content rolling out alongside it. Epic have not yet outlined further gameplay specifics, beyond what was shown in the trailer.
