Pokémon Go introduces remote trading for new friendship level 'Forever Friends'

Trainers can now trade Pokémon remotely after unlocking a fifth-tier Friendship level called ‘Forever Friends’.

Pokémon Go has added a feature long awaited by players, adding remote trading to the game. The “Remote Trade” function allows trainers to trade Pokémons with each other, regardless of regional factors.

Remote Trading is locked behind a newly-introduced fifth-tier Friendship level called ‘Forever Friends’. This new highest Friendship level can be earned by increasing Friendship points with another Trainer–which can be done by sending gifts, joining raid battles together, and more.

Increasing Friendship points to the Forever Friends tier from the fourth-tier ‘Best Friend’ can take months, though you can accelerate the progress faster by working on Weekly Challenges together.

How Remote Trading works in Pokémon Go

Once you have unlocked the Forever Friends level, both Trainers can mark three of their Pokémons that are up for trading, plus three of the Pokémons they would like from the other Trainer. This ‘wishlist’ can be seen by both parties.

The two Trainers then come to an agreement on which Pokémon they are willing to trade for the other. With the final offering locked in, Trainers can click confirm or cancel plus the option to restart or abort the trading process.

Bear in mind to use the Remote Trading function wisely as it is a one-time use. You’ll need to replenish your Friendship points with the other Trainer once again to unlock the Remote Trade function.

There is also a list of criteria for which Pokémon you can and cannot put up for trade, including Pokémon caught in the last 30 days, a previously traded Pokémon, and a Pokémon currently set as your buddy.

On top of the addition of Remote Trade, Pokémon Go also expanded the maximum number of friends from 450 to 650. The change will take place periodically, with increments of 50 every week.
