Activision and Paramount’s upcoming Call of Duty live-action movie has found its writer and director.
Paramount Pictures and Activision have formed a writer-director duo for their upcoming live-action Call of Duty feature film. The film will be co-written by Peter Berg and Taylor Sheridan, with Berg set to also direct the movie. Berg previously directed Mile 22 and Spenser Confidential, while Sheridan is best known for creating Yellowstone and its subsequent spin-offs.
The Call of Duty film does not have a release date yet.
Call of Duty movie assembles writer-director team
Activision’s juggernaut first-person shooter franchise Call of Duty is getting a live-action movie adaptation. The movie was first announced earlier this year in September, after Paramount Pictures and the game publisher struck a deal to produce the adaptation together. At the time, a creative team for the movie had not been locked in yet.
This week, it was announced that the Call of Duty movie adaptation had found its writer and director. Peter Berg (Spenser Confidential, Battleship) will write, direct, and produce the film. Taylor Sheridan (Sicario, Yellowstone, Wind River) will also write and produce the film. David Glasser has also been announced as producer.
Berg and Sheridan have collaborated on previous Hollywood productions, making this a reunion for the duo. The two had previously produced Wind River and Hell or High Water together, the latter of which earned four Academy Award nominations.
Previous reports claimed that Paramount had turned down a pitch from Steven Spielberg to helm the film. It looks like Berg and Sheridan have picked up the project in his stead, though plot details for the project remain under wraps at this stage. It’s unknown if the movie will tell an original story in the franchise, or if it will adapt ongoing storylines from the Modern Warfare or Black Ops series.
The Call of Duty movie does not have a release date yet. The next entry in the game franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, launches on 14 November, 2025.
