EA under fire as Battlefield 6 campaign developers go uncredited after studio closure

Not every person who worked on Battlefield 6 made it into the credits.

Electronic Arts is facing criticism after several former Battlefield 6 developers were reportedly left out of the game’s credits following the closure of Ridgeline Games, the studio originally built to lead the campaign’s development. Marcus Lehto, the Halo co-creator who founded Ridgeline in 2021, called out EA on LinkedIn for omitting many of his ex-teammates and himself from Battlefield 6’s official credits.

“I’m disappointed to see that many of my former teammates from Ridgeline Games were not properly credited in the recent release of Battlefield 6,” he wrote.

“These talented developers worked tirelessly for one to two and a half years building the foundation of the game,” Lehto added. “Despite their significant contributions, most who were laid off were relegated to a ‘Special Thanks’ section at the very end of the credits, and several were omitted entirely, including myself.”

He went on to share a full list of Ridgeline developers he believed deserved proper recognition, saying that every contributor “deserves fair acknowledgement.”

Ridgeline Games was founded under EA to create a narrative-driven campaign for Battlefield 6. The studio was shut down in 2024 after Lehto’s departure, an event which he previously described as “incredibly upsetting” and left him with “nothing positive to say about EA,” according to a report by PC Gamer.

Ridgeline’s campaign work never made it to launch

In a follow-up post, Lehto explained that Ridgeline had built the “new narrative foundation, fictional setting, believable factions, and iconic locations” for Battlefield 6, working closely with other Battlefield studios. However, much of that work, including the campaign’s story and mission structure, was scrapped after the studio’s closure. “It’s understandable,” Lehto admitted. “I might have done the same thing in their shoes.”

Ironically, just a week before his LinkedIn statement, Lehto congratulated the Battlefield 6 team on launch, saying he knew “how much hard work went into it” and wished everyone success.

The missing names in Battlefield 6’s credits have reignited discussion about how major studios handle developer attribution, an issue that has surfaced repeatedly in recent years. Even Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian faced similar criticism when localisation staff were initially left out of the RPG’s credits, though the studio later promised to fix it in a patch.
