Dying Light The Beast's event rewards are a "challenge" to the community, says franchise director

We spoke to Dying Light's franchise director about new Dying Light: The Beast content.

Techland’s zombie action-adventure game Dying Light: The Beast has dropped an 11-week content roadmap for post-launch content. The future content drops include a New Game+ mode, all-new Legend Levels, and a Nightmare difficulty setting.

The GosuGamers team talked to Tymon Smektala, franchise director of the Dying Light series at Thailand Game Show this week about the game’s latest Call of the Beast event, which serves as a “challenge” to the community.

Dying Light: The Beast drops 11-week content roadmap

Techland’s expansion-turned-sequel, Dying Light: The Beast, stars Kyle Crane–a returning protagonist from the first game in the series. The game launched on 18 September, 2025, and it looks like its players can already expect more in-game content to chew on very soon.

The game’s newly-revealed content roadmap includes a series of upcoming features including New Game+, Legend Levels, and a new Nightmare difficulty setting. On the technical side of things, new weapon executions, visual and quality-of-life improvements, ray tracing on PC, and more are also in the works.

While these new additions don't have official release windows, players can look forward to the immediate addition of Call of the Beast. Call of the Beast is an 11-week-long event that consists of weekly challenges which grant players exclusive rewards, with each reward being available temporarily as part of the event. That means if players don’t complete their challenges and grab this week’s rewards, they’ll lose access to them forever.

Call of the Beast is live from now until 7 January, 2026.

An interview with Techland about Dying Light: The Beast

Techland’s Tymon Smektala, franchise director of the Dying Light series, spoke to us about the game’s latest roadmap at Thailand Game Show this week. When we asked him if the Call of the Beast’s rewards would only be available on a weekly basis, he confirmed as much:

“So those items are exclusive. What that means is that if you are not able to get them within that week, then you will not be able to get them, but–and there is a but! During that weekend, we don't ask you to do anything crazy. You just need to participate. We see this as a community challenge where we ask the whole community to achieve a goal.”

Smektala continued to explain that all players have to do is complete activities that they “don't have to spend hours in the game” to complete. Hence, players won’t have to work very hard to get this event’s limited-time rewards.

However, players who worry about missing out on weekly events do have a chance of getting all the available rewards anyway. Smektala admitted that “Sometimes life happens, school, work, trip, you cannot play,” which is why the developer has decided to make a “deal” with the community:

"Let's make a deal. If you will, as a community, complete 90% of those challenges–which is, I think 20 challenges out of 22–everyone, including those who might have just done one thing over the whole 11 weeks, will get all of the rewards. But this is like a deal, a challenge between us and the community. Will the community stand for each other? Will the community be like, you know, a group of survivors that is pushing through, or will they fail any of the challenges? I don't know. I keep my fingers crossed for them.”

Smektala ended his statement by affirming that “the challenge is a very important part of the Dying Light experience. This is not a game where everything should be easy.”

Roger Craig Smith's return as Kyle Crane made Techland devs emotional

We also asked Smektala about what he considered to be a pivotal moment in the game’s development. The developer answered with a sweet anecdote regarding actor Roger Craig Smith, who voices protagonist Kyle Crane in the game.

“It was the moment when we first heard the voice lines of Roger Craig Smith, the voice of Kyle Crane in the game. I remember sitting in the studio, and I had an open space, so I saw a lot of developers in front of me, and we uploaded the dialog, the vocal lines from him overnight. In the morning, they came back to work. They started the game, as they usually do, to test their own parts of the game. And they heard Kyle’s voice, and I saw people's faces turning so emotional, being excited about kind of returning to this character.”

The developer continued: "I'm happy that we have that, because without his voice, we would not be able to have Dying Light: The Beast as it is today.”

We also asked Smektala about how Dying Light 2's mixed reception informed development on Dying Light: The Beast. You can read his response here.
