Pokemon Pokopia sells 2.2 million copies in four days, becomes Switch 2’s fourth best-seller

Pokemon Pokopia has quickly become one of the top-selling games on Switch 2—less than a week after its launch.

Nintendo has announced that its latest Switch 2-exclusive, Pokemon Pokopia, has sold over 2.2 million copies worldwide just four days since its launch, making it one of the most successful entries in the sprawling franchise.

Released on 5 March, Pokemon Pokopia received overwhelming critical acclaim, earning the highest review scores of any Pokemon game to date. The title has been widely discussed across social media and gaming communities, even spawning online trends–which undoubtedly contributed to its rapid commercial success.

Nintendo revealed that half of the sales came from Japan, with the remaining spread across other regions. Current figures are expected to be even higher as demand continues.

Pokemon Pokopia climbs to 4th on Switch 2’s all-time sellers

This impressive launch places Pokemon Pokopia as the fourth best-selling game on Switch 2, trailing only behind historic hits: Pokemon Legends: Z‑A, Donkey Kong Bonanza, and Mario Kart World.

Given the pace of its sales, the game is expected to rise further. While Pokemon Legends: Z‑A has sold 3.89 million copies and Donkey Kong Bonanza 4.25 million, surpassing Mario Kart World, which holds 14.03 million sales, will be a steeper hill to climb.

Pokemon Pokopia takes a different approach from traditional Pokemon titles, blending the franchise’s beloved characters into a life-simulation experience with mechanics reminiscent of Animal Crossing and Minecraft.

Originally appealing to a cosy, niche audience, the game has quickly reached mainstream popularity, with reports of stock shortages in several regions, making its 2 million milestone all the more impressive.

Being a Switch 2 exclusive has also driven some sales of the console itself, although many players remain hesitant to purchase a new device solely for one game. Regardless, Pokopia's impact has been phenomenal with even Nintendo's stock seeing a positive jump of 13% following the game's launch.

The high sales numbers for Pokemon Pokopia are expected to continue growing.
